Undiagnosed IBS

IBS is one of many conditions I have. I’ve had IBS symptoms for as long as I can remember, it must have started early teens and I’m now 23. I get the normal symptoms, excess wind, constipation, awful pain in my abdomen, major bloating all of the time and discharge when at my worst.

When I was probably 16 the Drs investigated with an endoscopy and found my stomach was irritated, they didn’t do a colonoscopy though so I have never been officially diagnosed.

So my question is, is it important to get diagnosed or is it pretty certain it’s just IBS?

Hi Jess, I would suggest you try and get a formal diagnosis as it could be diverticular disease which has similar symptoms but different advice about treatment . Sadly o have both, IBS D and areas of diverticular so it's often a guess which on is playing up. I have another condition too so it's not much fun a lot of the time but I'm trying to practice meditation to see of that can help me with this and life in general . Best wishes to you X

Thank you for the reply. I’ve been thinking I need to get a formal diagnosis for a while. I’m at the Drs so much as it is dealing with other conditions so I hate it when I have to go for something else, I feel like I reel off a list of problems each time I go 😂

I know the feeling, I know the reception staff at my Dr by their first names I've been so often! You are still young so I think if you can get a proper idea of what's going on you will know what to expect and how to treat it in the future . Very best wishes X

There a test for Ibs called IBSchek. Ask your doctor for it. Do not take no for an answer. If you have it do not have a colonoscopy, it will not be necessary. Good luck.
