Medication - senna and celevac

Hello, I have taken senna tablets and celevac - methylcellulose for a number of years. I have taken these for constipation. Over the past year I have began to experience diarrhoea and constipation. I suffer from terrible flare ups where I am bloated for weeks/months.

I have had no support from doctors to change my medication. I feel it can’t be good to taken senna tablets for years, when they are supposed to be a quick fix.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? And if so what have you done?

I have chronic constipation. I have been to private consultant and had the tests done. There are two new drugs that you can get on the NHS called Prucalopride and Linaclotide. They don't work like traditional laxatives, they work on the receptors in the stomach. They should give it to you if nothing else works. It is on the NICE guidelines and you should say this to your doctor. Linaclotide which I take now is amazing. Works within hours. It is not like Laxido or Movicol which does nothing for me and makes me bloated. What I also take in between is about 600 to 1000mg of magnesium citrate or oxide on an empty stomach before bed with lots of water. This works great, naturally and is effective. My colorectal consultant recommended it as well. Look up information on magnesium and constipation. If I don't take it I don't go.

There are other magnesium products for the colon that are excellent although more expensive but worth it. They are in order of my preference, Oxypowder, Aerobic Mag07 and Colosan. You can get them on Amazon or a place called the Finchley clinic. They are very helpful and you can call for advice. Hope this helps.

I have been taking Senna-Lax for over 7 years. I take 3-4 every Saturday night. Nothing..fiber, probiotics, exercise, Fiber supplements, home remedies, other laxatives, Linzess does nothing for me, so I'm in the same boat you are in. I have lost over 100 pounds from use of Senna-Lax..but it's all that helps me. Gastroenterologists dismiss me, have to go to ER all the time, but all they say is "more Fiber," all outdated advice. More fiber only makes things worse. In scared for my health. Gastroenterologists, want me off Senna, but do little to help me. I'm at my wits end. Please let me know what works for you if you find sonething, I'm desperate to go off Senna..

P.S. I just ordered "magnesium Calm" off Amazon. Heard great things about it. It's not a laxative. I will try anything for relief. Miralax, Linzess, Milk of Magnesia, do little except horrible cramping and diarrhea. I hope we both find something. Keep in touch..☺🌸
