Is gluten free food doing us more harm than good?
About twp years ago i went privately for a food intolerance test re my IBS. It was suggested I go gluten & dairy free which I did & continued for over a year. Doing this didn't make much difference to my IBS symptoms so I gave up the gluten free but carried on with being dairy free. But I still bought

E464 (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) problems anyone?
Trying to get back on to foods after cross contamination, I have found I’ve having problems with E464. My daughter pointed out that it’s a laxative, which I wasn’t aware of. Just wondering if anyone else has issues with it, as I went back to square one after consuming some gluten free bread as toast

Carboxy Methyl Cellulose / E466 / Cellulose gum. Comments?
I normally eat home cooked whole foods, and I don't worry about additives when I very rarely eat anything processed. However, after not eating any processed foods at all since June 2020, I recently decided to buy a pack of BFree Sweet Potato Wraps, which I used to enjoy. I had one a day for 4 days,

Methyl cellulose
Hi, I’ve had IBS for years and tried lots of medications to help with diarrhoea, eventually my dr prescribed celevac ( methyl cellulose). This changed my life, I go to the toilet normally, able to go for a walk without worrying etc. Unfortunately I was told today that it’s been discontinued and no longer

A new glycol word to watch for
Hydroxypropyl
methylcellulose
. It is the same as hypromellose, which is a PG extract combined with cellulose fiber. Places are making fake gelatin capsules out of it these days, so now, even capsules are not safe anymore! It may also be called HPMC. Please be careful out there.

How I overcame IBS-D
Dear all, I periodically post this advice to help new-comers to the subject. I consider myself a recovered IBS-sufferer and so like to share what I learned. I hope that you are keeping sane during the lockdown! This is my general approach to help people understand and repair their gastro-intestinal

IBS basics for beginners
Dear all, I have recently been suffering from excess burping and stomach pains for which I became dependent on Nexium for a couple of weeks. I have recently found that this is due mainly to changing from almond milk to lactose free milk, and also because I have been drinking a lot of decaff tea and

Control and Treatment of SIBO and IBS
Hello, this is my general response to help people find a baseline. First, go to the doctors and get yourself checked for intestinal infections, and whatever other tests they want to do. Most people find they are all clear, and that IBS is a condition brought on by our modern diet, freely accessible

Healthspan Super20Pro and Optibac Extra Strength
I've been taking Healthspan for the last few days - not a full capsule as it's too much for me so I tend to take about three quarters ( I open them up) and my bloat was quite good. However I ran out but noticed that Optibac Extra Strength has exactly the same contents apart from hydroxypropyl methyl

Celevac & Enterosgel for IBS: anyone have experience of these insoluble nonfermentable bulking agents?
Celevac is
Methylcellulose
. Enterosgel is specifically Polymethylsiloxane polyhydrate (a gelly-like polymeric organosilicon compound with absorptive properties). Celevac is a pink tablet, Enterosgel comes in gel form or in a sachet.

Awaiting diagnosis - new here
I'm currently taking
methylcellulose
I started on 2 twice a day and am now taking 6 but they don't seem to help. I feel like I just wee out all the water I take with them and they seem to just vanish inside me.

Nature-Throid reformulation
I wanted to ask a question about Nature-Throid. I read that NT was reformulated shortly after Armour, but I wanted to know if it was really reformulated in the same way? I read somewhere that the old NT contained methyl cellulose, and that it was replaced by microcrystalline cellulose in the new version

Celevac anyone?
Does anyone have any experience of methyl cellulose - I think it's called celevac? I have to take laxatives and struggle with all of them. Fibogel is no use and Movicol has it's drawbacks even though it works - I end up with the runs after a few days on it despite reducing the dosage. I'm wanting to

For you Gwenlou: Which comes first, Parkinson's or constipation? RLS or constipation?
If your doctor approves it, you might also consider taking fiber supplements, such as psyllium or
methylcellulose
. If these simple methods don’t work, your doctor might consider giving you a stool softener or a laxative. Source: Pfeiffer, R.F. (2005) Intestinal Dysfunction.
