I have recently been diagnosed with IBS after many tests/trips to the doctors in constant pain. He is reluctant to give me medication just now, but I wake up in pain most mornings and days like today it lasts all day :( Does anyone have any advice on over the counter medication to try? Glad i have found this network where people know how i feel.

Hi i would reccomend buscopan which im sure will help in the short term with cramps. also u can try immodium or immodium plus and there is also colpermin. im on perscribed medication but its only mainly the stuff above. i have ibs-a but mostly ibs-d. i take 1 alverine tablet in the morning then 1immodium and alverine before lunch then 1 buscopan and immodium early evening. i find eating the same times every day helps as well. i would keep badgering ur docs though go back every week if u have too. it may also be worth getting some acidophilus plus from ur health shop to help with gut bacteria its a probiotic. hope this help if u have ibs-c it wont.

Thank you for all your advice i will speck to my doctor again but try some of your advice, thanks again :)

hi val i have 2 immodium, 1 buscopan and 2 alverine a day but i can have up to 8 immodium, 2 alverine and 4 buscopan if needed. im from england so you should be able to get buscopan and immodium no problem, not sure about the alverine but you can try colpermin. i also had to quit dairy products, fried food, smoking and alcohol as they all made me bad.
