Hi im new to this forum, I've been diagnosed with IBS and given mebeverine to take daily but it isn't having much effect on my pain but making me sluggish. Can you take fybogel sachets along with mebeverine?

Thanks

Mebeverine and Fybogel can be taken in combination. Mebeverine will make your bowels sluggish as it's intended to alleviate spasms and slow down intestinal contractions. Fybogel is a bulking agent which helps both constipation and diarrhoea, but remember to drink plenty of fluids when taking it.

Hi. I would advise you to go back to your GP. It sounds as if the mebeverine doesn't suit you. You may need painkillers as well.

I was perscribed both at the beggining of diagnosis however I found fybogel irritated me and made me feel very full and sluggish so I ditched it and just stuck to the meberverine and I’ve been fine On that, I find natural sources of fibre in moderation works best for my body and drinking ginger tea helps a lot for digestion in general

Hi, I was wondering what sources of fibre you found best? Im still trying to work out my trigger foods and maybe have been a little too restrictive in my diet! Thanks

Hi. I have IBS and was prescribed mebeverine but it didn’t help me either. I have found that Buscopan helps relieve the pain spasms but changing my diet has been the most effective. I no longer eat dairy. I use goats milk. I try to avoid wheat so no pastry or pizzas but I’m ok with small amounts of bread - or try eating gluten-free foods. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies, I was wondering if mebeverine takes a few days to have effect or should it work straight away? Thanks
