Quick question.....

Does anybody know how long the effects of Mebeverine last? What I mean is.....if I take 1 tablet before breakfast....bout 7.30am, then maybe a slice of cake with a coffee at 11am, will I need to take another tablet? Or will the earlier tablet still be working?

Grateful for any ideas guys.....

I would say that you should generally leave 4 hours between taking another dose of any medication.

I have put a link below regarding mebeverine which may be of use to you. I was surprised when reading this article that mebeverine contains lactose so I have also attached another link regarding lactose in drugs for gastrointestinal conditions.

Hi Sue, I agree with Maureen. I take this medication and I just have it 3 times a day 20 minutes before every meal. Hope this helps

I gave up meberine many years ago. Had no effect on lessening any of my symptoms. I keep to buscapam now, peppermint pills are a no no as I have Hiatus hernia, which peppermint can cause bad acid reflux as its quite strong. Meberine did work 25 years ago, but as I got older, it's effect was very minimal

If you are still on the tablet form ask your GP to try you on the modified release capsules they work quicker. I took 3 on Saturday 20 mins before eating any food and it worked

Was on mebeverine for years.read here can make ibs worse.stopped and was much better! My cramps are always left side of groin.

Tried fodmap diet for to long think has made ut worse.just finished antibiotics for possible bacterial growth as was ill 5 out of 6 days.

Much better for 5 days then antibiotics seem to be triggering ibs so cut to 1 a day instead of 3 with last 4 tablets.

Stress will make it worse but i think scar tissue of hernia n appendix is the cause.i think groin gets stressed and this triggers ibs.

Get bloating more often now but not C

and rarely D.

Ginger wine gets me to sleep n prob healthier than tramadol or dicloverine hydrochloride.

Paracetamol dont seem to work anymore

.tramadol last resort if in extreme pain.

Heatpad helps sometimes.

25 years tried lots of things can vary once a week or 4 times a week.

Normacol granules keep me moving as

I keep to low fibre diet.

Most bread full if chemicals so eat little.

Onion,mushroom,sultanas all a no no.

Walking can help.tried jogging.groin couldnt cope with couch to 5k.

What couples do a lot when first married can help but needs steady as you go.

I used to take it 3 times a day. I’ve cut down to twice now. I find a can eat a light breakfast or a snack like a bit of cake or something without needing to take one. So your elevensies should be fine.. but too much sugar could be a trigger .
