Does anybody else taking these find that they make wind/gas/bloating worse as I'm pretty sure that omeprazole is doing that to me?

I take omeprazon 20mg daily and have done for about 3 years . I don't think it's great, sometimes wonder if they contribute to nausia, I'm trying to take myself off them gradually now as I'm not sure they're helping but I feel dependent on them,
I take both omeprazole and ranitidine daily and although the combination of these works pretty well for my reflux, I think the omeprazole is giving me problems. I also have nausea after meals some days.
Have you talked to your doctor about reducing your dose? Perhaps you should as he/she might be able to switch you to a different type of medication.
Thanks for replying.

I didn't take them but partner did - he had awful bloating and to be honest I am so glad he doesn't take them any more because they have bad side effects. They found out he was celiac so removing gluten etc from his diet has meant he no longer needs to take them - think they worked in the beginning but the more he took the less they helped
Thanks very much for your reply.
I think a few people have problems with omeprazole, perhaps I'll just take ranitidine and hope for the best!
Glad your partner got a proper diagnosis in the end. It's not good to have coeliac, but at least it can be managed.

And off those tablets
I’ve stopped omperazole and they said to try lansoprazole but I never really knew why as it was for nausea lol I’ve stopped. Them all now and feel no different
Yes, I think omeprazole is one of those meds that get handed out as some sort of cure-all!
Thanks for replying.

Yes! I have had dreadful issues since having to start a PPI. Unfortunately it is to protect my stomach and I have no option.
Thanks for replying.
Seems a few people have probs with these types of meds. I stopped taking it today and will see how things go from hereon.

Hi there,
I stopped taking lanzaprozol a few months back and my ibs d has virtually disappeared - odd flare ups due to food but not the constant daily ibs d. I have been given ranatidine 300 mg to take one daily but it’s a bit hit and miss for my heartburn but I’d rather that than the hellish ibs d every single day! X
Hi Jane2510, thanks for replying.
I too have ranitidine and, like you, find that it's not as effective as a ppi, however, I agree, that anything is better than the side effects omeprazole was causing me. I've been off it for a few days now and the gas and bloating have vanished so I'm not in much doubt that it was that giving me problems.

I got so much advice on here re-omeprazole so I’ve been off it nearly a week now. From daily alternate ibs (in the same day) I have been missing a day in the loo which is bliss, the ibs-d has got less and the spasms have greatly reduced so I’m hoping by coming off the omeprazole the side effects will continue to lesson. Food is still a factor and my acid reflux is murder but not going back on the meds to give body a chance.

I was given Lansaprazole to 'protect' my stomach because I was taking other meds. I've been on it for years, not understanding why as I now have chronic indigestion and inflamed bowel. My Hashi's curse now includes IBS/gluten and lactose intolerance and as 4 of my daily meds contain lactose as an unnecessary filler and may cause indigestion. I'm having to eat strict FODMAP, check all labels and refuse problem meds, asking for alternatives. I blame the meds and out of date/ignorant/arrogant Drs for making me chronically ill. We ALL need to be vigilant about what meds we take.
Yes, you're so right about all that. Pills seem to get dished out like Smarties sometimes - especially the cheaper ones!
I hope you get to grips with your problems.
