Omeprazole 20mg warning!

I was left on this medication for around 6 years by my doctor for stomach acid. I am from the UK so although we have a national health service it’s a common occurrence not to receive a sufficient level of care. Anyway I have managed to replace the benefits that these tablets did assist with by instead taking vitamins. Stopped taking 5 months ago and I can not put into words how amazing I have felt ever since. Anxiety and depression have lifted enormously! I used to get anxious about the smallest things, such as driving my car, having time of certain juice in the house. Just the daftest things ever. I’m Sleeping better then I ever was. No brain fog, memory/concentration have increased significantly. I can not recall a time when my mood was been constantly high throughout my life (32) I truly believe these tablets severely impacted my mental health for all those years so I strongly advise anyone either taking or thinking about taking them to not bother. Look into natural aids instead!!

I second this, was on these for years and it felt like I was losing my mind. Couldn't remember anythin, brain fog, I felt like a 90 year old at age 25! When i stopped them, all of that disappeared but left with awful IBS as a result, sooo happy you're off them!

Thanks for replying. I also suffer from IBS, I find I can manage mine by taking Fibre tablets, peppermint oil and Turmeric/Black Pepper. All from a British company called Nutravita. I couldn’t be without them now! Hopefully you are able to give them a try and see if they help.

Thanks maconer for great post about omeprazole side effects. Sorry you'd been suffering greatly mentally and are now better off them. I just would like to add a word of caution that these group of drugs do play an important role in the management of several digestive conditions and for people needing to be on NSAIDs and steroids long term. If you do get side effects and let's face it who doesn't?, it's worth trying other drugs in the same family or there are other groups of drugs with different properties that can help. Worth working with your GP on this!. It can be dangerous to not take something at all. !.

I'm glad it's worked out well for you and hope it continues. Keep safe and well. X

I agree here. It is also worth looking into any known conflicts with other medication.

Best to remember that what works (or doesn't) can be Very different for someone else.

Thanks for that information, Nutritional medicine is foreign to most physicians, they are trained to to prescribe drugs (pills) all of which have side-effects.

Proper Nutrients can protect and heal the body, it's your health and life that are at stake so

it is wise to take control.

Hi I also took myself off lansaprazol 2 weeks ago, so much bloating which I dont get now, I get a few pains now in stomach but not like what I got when on lansaprazole and ranitidine before lansaprazole for 16 years. I do feel better in myself and when I get a bit of pain I drink boiled water which calms my stomach, sometimes take a spoonful of gaviscon. My bowels are normal and have been for about 6 months now this is because I have boring porridge oats with a small handful of raisins every morning and a glass of water to wash down, then my cup of tea. This works for me to be regular so I will keep it up.Can I ask what vitamins you are taking? I wish you the very best and hope you continue without these tablets.

Of course. So the full list I take daily is a multi vitamin (too many ingredients to list), 1000 my omega 3 fish oil, organic turmeric 1340 mg with ginger 80mg & black pepper 20 mg, Maca root extract 4000mg, vitamin c 1200mg with zinc 40mg, psyllium husk fibre 600mg, calcium 800mg magnesium 400 mg & vitamin D 20 mg and peppermint oil 50 mg.

I take everything except the fibre first thing. Usually take the fibre mid day. I think the real game changer for me to stop the stomach bubble you hear inside was starting the turmeric, cant recommend highly enough!! Then obviously the fibre does a great job of keeping things flowing too. Feel so much better just in general after taking vitamins daily. I credit them to turning my life around and keeping my vibration high 💪🏻

Well done. You sure take a lot of vitamins but they work for you, that's good. Been off my meds now for nearly 5 weeks and doing good. If I eat a bit too much I drink boiled water and it clears quickly. Last meal is always 6pm, and I can eat practically everything again apart from fat or skin off chicken. I wish you well.

I’m just coming off medication and couldn’t sleep a wick last night! When I tried to was having nightmares! Plus, the higher my dosage the more problems I had with my bowl movement! Glad to hear you are doing well now. Of course most drugs have side affects but don’t believe we should tolerate it. Mine was intolerable!

I posted here a few months ago with exactly the same experience. My IBS is now controllable and I’m so much happier and energetic.

I stay away from NSAIDs and control my occasional reflux with gaviscon and silicolgel.

English GPs seems to think Omeprazole is some kind of miracle cure.
