Lansoprazole Side Effects

New to lansoprazole - been on it for a couple of days but already noticed some side effects. I've been prescribed lansoprazole for suspected too high acid levels in my stomach, which resulted in quite severe diarrhoea, with blood tests coming in soon. I've noticed veins on my lower side and upper inner thigh becoming more pronounced and more purple, with a small group of spots (not quite sure if its a rash). Is this normal?

I was given it for the same reason (diagnosed with gastritis) and after 4 weeks was in so much pain in my lower bowel I refused to take them any more. I didn't have rashes or notice any vien changes but everyone is different. I think you should speak to your gp about alternatives.

I don't take any medication at all, I just avoid acidic foods and try not to over eat. Seems to be working as I've no gastric pain at all these days.

I can sympathies completely, in my experience it's a very unpleasant drug.

I've been on lansoprazole for several years without problems. I think you should contact your GP. Any sort of side effect regarding your veins could be serious.

Best to discuss what you are experiencing with your GP. I tolerated Nexium (esomeprazole) better. They don't hand this out initially since it is more expensive. They tend to try people on the cheaper ones first and then move to the more expensive if the cheaper ones aren't tolerated.

Yeh, they put me on Esomeprazole in the end and that seems to have done the trick with no side effects.
