I am 35 years old female without any prior digestive issues.
I was having gas related discomfort and was put on omeprazole during a phone consultation by a GP.
Post which I had more gas related issues and pain.
Then 2 days later was put on naproxen which I had twice a day for 2 days and it made my acidity extreme causing me extreme chest burn ( before medicines I did not have any of these burning issues)
I was put on naproxen to make sure some inflammation isn’t causing it but post blood test I was off them after 2 days.
I came off from both above medicines after consuming them for -
- omeprazole for 6 days
- naproxen - twice a day for 2 days on 5th and 6th day.
I am now 2 days without both the medicines, my gas has reduced significantly, acid related chest burn is gone but my entire body has started to feel burning sharp pain and I feel stingy even in my eyes sometimes. Is it normal ?
I am not sure what is happening. Any idea?
If it’s rebound, how long will it last? Considering I had them only for 6 days max, I hope it goes away quickly.
Any recommendations for temporary acid reflux control. I don’t want to take harsh medicines with side effects anymore.
I feel like omeprazole wasn’t the right medicine for me as I had gas issues and not acidity. Now I have acidity issues as well .

I’m just constantly drinking water and taking gaviscon, both are not helping too much at all really. Constantly searching online for a better antacid as don't trust prescribed meds no more. I was on omeprazole for 11 days, my anxiety was through the roof(which I’ve never suffered with before) and I just wish I never called my doctor for help. My rebound symptoms are chest burning most nights keeping me awake and my stomach bubbling. Totally drained me.
I was fine before omeprazole, had little heartburn niggles over the years, but normally went in no time. Spoke to a pharmacist last night and he believes it will take a couple of weeks for omeprazole to come out of system, praying he’s right
Cheyne13 - I'm not sure how I'm 'illinformed' when over and over I have seen non stop complaints on omeprazole and it causing IBS and sibo, then only to have it happen to me too. Even when I went to the GP after years of diahorrea she rushed me off omeprazole in a panic. I dont want anyone else to have to go through that.
