And now its constipation...

many yrs ago I started up with ibs diarrhea and after many years it seems to 'clear up'... which I credit a non-grain diet for...but started to creep up lately have been bouts of constipation...and as I've read what many have said 'seems like regardless of what I eat or don't eat...'.... anyway, I would really appreciate your thoughts... does ibs-c make you feel 'sickish' during the day...not always but often...plus a 'finally' bm just wipes me out... I was wondering also if I could take Miralax every day... Plus...very often...its 'right there' but there are NO muscles 'working' to push it out (even if its NOT large and hard)... so digging is the only way :( ...

Anyway, THANK YOU for your thoughts and sharing anything you might think helpful.

Hi there, IBS is a funny thing in that it changes. I was diagnosed back in 1996/7 after a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy and I suffered with stomach cramps, bloating and a general feeling of being unwell. I've always had IBS symptoms since then but for quite a few years I was quite well and didn't have many symptoms. Then approximately 2 years ago the symptoms started to get worse and of late I have had mainly IBS C (I've never had mainly IBS D), some times I've had diorrhea but that seems to be down to what I have eaten and I have a feeling it might be Lactose hence now buying Lactose free products. I also get stomach cramps, some bloating and the worse symptom is nausea.

Since my IBS has got worse I have cut raw onions, raw carrots and sweetcorn completely out of my diet as I know for sure that I cannot eat them as I get immense stomach cramps where I am doubled over. I also eat limited amounts of broccoli; I haven't had cauliflower in a while so may try some in a while but not until I have followed the FODMAP diet (I am out for a meal on Tuesday so will start the diet once I have been out for my meal).

For the constipation I take a rounded dessertspoon of Golden Linseed, which is the same as Flaxseed, and soak it for around an hour in about a 3rd of a mug of water and then drink. Other people grind the Linseed down (it is sometimes undigested) but I'm fine as long as I soak it long enough. This has worked really well for me and of course it's natural, particularly as I purchase organic seeds, I feel happier having organic ones.

Looking at your diet is definitely a good start though.

I hope that this helps.

Very best of luck
