The best way to determine this to stop eating dairy completely and see if that clears up your symptoms. Then reintroduce it in a controlled way and see what happens (e.g. try a glass of milk or a piece of cheese, rather than cooking something containing dairy where it could actually be the other ingredients or some type of reaction which is responsible).

If you definitely think your problem is with dairy, there's one other thing I have read about but I don't know if there's any scientific evidence to back it up: an intolerance to the A1 casein genotype. The theory is that the majority of dairy herds produce milk that has the A1 version of the protein casein. This protein might cause problems. A company called A2 milk (a2milk.co.uk/) is trialling a product guaranteed to be free from the A1 version of the protein. Whether that's your problem or not, and whether it's worth the investment when you could substitute milk with other products, is a choice that's down to you I'm afraid.

You can be INTOLERANT to all dairy products , and this will not show up on the allergy test. Lactose intolerance occurs when you do not have enough lactose enzyme to digest lactose ( milk sugar ) in cow's milk. Lactose intolerance and cows milk intolerance do not mean the same thing. Avoid cows milk products completely by reading labels carefully on EVERYTHING you eat. (It is in things you would not believe) If that sorts you out , avoid it COMPLETELY for 3 months, and you will probably be able to consume dairy again in moderation (guideline twice a day max)

If avoiding dairy does sort your symptoms out within a week, then consider whether a fruit commonly consumed or tea or coffee ( may be a problem if you have either more than twice daily).

Good luck

If you want to do your own intolerance test leave one food group out of your diet for at least 2/3 weeks keeping a food and bowel mivement diary to see what changes there might be

You can substitute soya milk and a dairy free spread like Pure

If lactose test negative, perhaps try that A2 milk that is taking off in supermarkets? You can find out all about it and testimonials on their website. Also try goats milk which has lower lactose content and is more easily digestible.

Try going without eating ANY kind of grains ... including 'gluten free' and organic-- for one week...not one bite cheating!...nothing but meat, veg, and fruit... and betcha it will clear up. This is HARD (not claiming it isn't) ... but it is the ONLY thing that helped me... they sneak wheat into most processed foods, especially canned soups or meals of ANY kinds... this includes brown rice, oats, barley, etc...ALL grains... Google Wheat Belly and IBS... you will be surprised. :)
