Well, i've just spent the last two days getting over incredible grumbling, creasing wind having had high hopes for Silicol gel! Obviously our weird systems do not like some things and it's as simple as that.....finding what those things are can be tedious though. Before I get bombarded, I have been carefully on the low FODMAP diet since last September  but I still rarely have a pain free day, and bloat every evening.

Have had the best pain relief from a "yoga for low back pain" 12 week course which I would recommend, and also have weekly acupuncture. Curiously, symptoms are greatly relieved by meeting up with friends and forgetting about it for a few hours! Hmmmm, what does that tell us?

I do not believe that there is such a thing as ibs, and that we all have something quite specific, but different, with many similar symptoms. Because it's not going to kill us renders us as medically unimportant, sadly. We help ourselves and each other.

Good luck with getting back to "normal"!

Have tried fybogel myself and it makes me 'uncomfortable' too, almost worst than what its trying to cure!

You could ask your gp for movicol i have found it ok and was what i was given in hospital after surgery. You can buy it over the counter but it is cheaper on script.

You can take up to 8 sachets a day - wouldnt recommend. But one or two daily worked at keeping me regular, just took a day or so to notice it working.

Same for me with Buscopan

Most laxatives have the same effect on me. I would rather be constipated for a few days than chance the side effects!

It's worth trying Benefiber instead of Fybogel. It doesn't seem to have the side effects and is just as effective.

Hi

Fybergel does the same for me you could try laxido it's a bit like movicol they don't tend to give you the cramps.

Welcome to the world of trying things that make you feel worse. I did that for years of medications and then I literally gave up and stopped using everything. Then one at a time tried different things again after a long break from medications other than one I use for VERY bad days. I think the two things that I do the least of would help me the most but can never get  motivated to do them and that is working out and reducing stress. My history tells me that it will not be the first or last medication that makes you feel worse. But also know that some medications will cause you to feel worse before you ever feel better so you basically have to fight it out for x number of days before you give up.

Have you tried taking a tablespoon of linseeds with a glass of water twice a day - helps with constipation.  Also try drinking a full glass of water before bed and as soon as you wake up.

Look at the list of ingredients on Fybogel - quite scary how many.
