Hey everyone, something also worth mentioning, the gastroenterologist told me that as well as no fybogel, lactalose is a complete waste of time and isn't great for the bowel with sufferer's like us, hinders more than helps.

Yes that does help Sammy, I really appreciate your reply as I have started to become more aware what's irritating my gut and bowel, especially now that I can go, as I am do afraid that I will cause the prucalopride to stop working.

I had lactolose in my early twenties and after five days I hadn't opened my bowels, my stomach was extremely distended and I was hospitalised. I would never take it again!

Hi Julieleesley68, yes the gastroenterologist took me off it, the GP had me on it for the last three +years amongst many other medications for constipation, none of them worked a few made me vomit. she told me lactalose causes more problems than solving them, and it's not a solution for people with bowel movement problems. I.e Chronic IBS

Hi allyfree, me again sorry to ask you more questions! I have been reading about the Prucalopride, very interesting. Please could you tell me if you found food intolerance to be a big part of the problem, the FODMAP diet did work for me for a while, but now it makes no difference, I am still avoiding many carbs as trying to combat the Candidia in my gut. Also as the Prucalopride is some thing to do with low Serotonin, ( in the gut ) I also have generalised anxiety which can be caused by low Serotonin in the brain, I wonder if there is a connection, any thoughts ?

Hi no need for apologies were here to try and support one another, yes the first thing that gastroenterologist explained was that is how prucalopride works its like an anti depressant for the gut. I did the fodmap to and went to loo a couple of times but then nothing more. I do have food intolerance problems but I'm still learning which ones I have severe anxiety disorder and in therapy for it. Obviously I don't want to say why here, but anxiety disorder is anxiety disorder no matter what the cause and is just as important to each person who suffers from it and has many symptoms , I sing the praise of prucalopride because it is now nearly a month I have been taking it and it has not let me down once. Do I go some days better than others, yes but going is going no matter how much. Even with the prucalopride I still pay attention to what I eat because of the divaticular desase , and I'm afraid I will cause the prucalopride to stop working. But you should only do what you're comfortable with and what is working for you.

Hi allyfree, thank you again for your reply. I also over the years have had therapy and antidepressants to try and over come this all day every day anxiety, but I have given up with that now. I enjoy yoga ( when I get around to it ) that has helped me to see things differently, I believe. I will give this protocol I am on until Xmas, if no improvement I will see if my GP will refer me to a gastroenterologist, I did pay to see one privately some years back, he just reccomended to take Amitriptyline, which I did for a while, but I did'nt like the side effects. Hope you continue feeling well 🐰

I am on amitripyline and gabapentin, sertraline. all of which work to a point. I'm sorry to hear that therapy didn't work for you . But if yoga does then that's the way to go. Good luck with your journey I really hope that it's successful for you. and thank you I hope so too that things continue on a good path for me. 😊

Hi,

I think the medical profession needs a huge shake up with its attitude to IBS. I'm sure a lot more could be done but instead, they issue the label IBS and often then don't investigate problems enough or take care to prescribe the best medication.

I've been lucky to get a good medication Julie, be it took six years to get there. But very true GPS ignore the problem of IBS because they refuse to have the underlying causes which are mental health and that it causes the physical problems , even if the problem was not physical to begin with there is nothing normal about not going to the toilet for six years and should set off alarm bells that was a mental health problem have now affected the patients physical health. So much more should be done. Good luck with your journey x

Thank you. Sometimes it makes me think I don't really have IBS because I've had my problem since birth. I think the medics don't have a clue so just labelled my problem as IBS, just to fob me off.

I have STC and had 1/3 of my large bowel removed last year. Before surgery I was on linzess 250, magnesium hydroxide and 4 laxido a day and still getting bowel obstruction. Since my surgery I'm on 2 laxido as day and am gluten, dairy and soya free. I have had every laxative going given to me by my gastro and colorectal surgeon. Are you under a gastro?

Oh dear that's alot bless you Kerry. Sorry to hear you're having to cope with so much yes I am under a gastroenterologist. She is lovely and listening was key for me. I had laxido it did nothing but make me projectile vomit. the gastroenteroligist said the vomiting is common with laxido, she put me on prucalopride which has been brilliant so far, although today I am having some problems with dia, which is very unusual for me. Good luck Kerry thank you for sharing x
