I am 70years old was diagnosed with ibs over 15years ago at doctor's. Recently I suffered a pain in my back and very bad upper stomach pains. Went to doctor's he examined me my stomach and back. Found my bowel was ok. But I have still got pain intermittently in my back and I get upper stomach cramps. Of course I look on line for symptoms of other things that could be wrong which I think makes my ibs worse as I get stressed out. I will go back to my doctor if things do not change. Does anybody else get bad ack pain with there is?

Yes IBS can give you lower back pain, especially at night. It is a referred pain, the source of which is the gut. Try my old favourite as a fix, Colpermin. It may help the gut for you.
I get back pain as a reaction to foods for which I have a severe intolerance - whey, I am severely intolerant of - almost as bad as a true allergy - even traces of it will give me excruciating lower back pain. Other foods too, I've just discovered, do that - beetroot, it seems, not only gives me terrible GI distress but lower back pain too. My physio said that, with reactions to food, your muscles tense and it's not unusual to have this kind of chronic pain. Perhaps consider what you're eating along those lines? I didn't develop my severe whey intolerance until about 3 years ago - it crept up slowly until one day, it was really violent - couldn't breathe properly, bloating, nausea, chronic back & head pain etc
