Hi I have suffered for years with IBSD but now I get terrible bouts of constipation up to 8 days then I get diarrhea. I'm trying magnesuim has anyone else tried that? Would be grateful for any feed back.

Thanks

I have found Magnesium very helpful. I take high doses as recommended by a nutritionist - 600mg of Magnesium Glycinate per day. But for me constipation has always been the problem whereas it sounds as though you have had a change in pattern so this should definitely be checked out. Good luck

Thanks I think it's changed since I had hysterectomy. I'm going try magnesium for a week to see how it goes

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and my IBS has become much worse gradually since then. I take 1/2 a sachet of Movicol every night and this stops me having constipation, and then after about 2 weeks I have a horrible bout of diarrhea which leaves me feeling drained. Then the whole thing starts again. I have been convinced there is a link between hysterectomy and IBS C for a long time.

Hi I'm really convinced there is a link too. Hopefully this magnesium will help. Thank you for your reply.

I too take magnesium citrate or oxide as I have constipation on a daily basis at high doses. I have been for years.

Thank you how much do you take?

Hello, I also take magnesium for constipation and find it the most successful form of maintaining regularity that is manageable and does not exacerbate bloating. However, I only had success with a good brand (I use natures sunshine) and not what was available in my local superdrug or boots. Hope you get success with magnesium.

Hi thanks for that. I will have a look if I can get that one.

My Consultants and GP have it on record that I have IBS and I've never tried it and it's never been recommended that I try it.

As I tend to go 10 to 14 days without a bowel movement - e.g. go about twice a month - then it goes in waves and I go four/five times a day for a few days and then it returns to 10/14 days.

Might give it a go.

Anything is worth a try, that's how I feel now. Good luck

Absolutely agree with you, the additional fibre supplements etc, laxatives etc just don't work. Fingers crossed :)
