Yes, I do, but I have no idea why they started! My doctor sent for me for allergy testing because I had slight swelling of the tongue as well but the tests didn't show anything. Tomatoes, in particular, set me off and a stinging tongue is also a symptom. I usually find it subsides after 10 to 30 minutes

Hi, I do. I suspect soya e.g. soya lecithin is in many chocolate bars, and in margarine. I find I get little bumps on my tongue like you do when you have burnt your tongue on a hot drink. So you could see if any soya products are in the foods you've eaten when you experience this.

Thanks for your replies. I do have soya as I'm lactose intolerant. I have noticed if I eat the odd bit of gluten, this is when it begins to get sore and burning and red raw patches.

Hi Sarah, I have just come back from my doctors as I've been ill for well over a year now and no it's i.b.s related. I have just find out I could be vitamin b12 deficiency caused by being vegetarian or heavier periods or both. One of the signs of this deficiency is painful and sore tongue. Ask for a blood test at your doctors this is NOT a usual symptom of i.b.s! Good luck!

Thank you for your response, is this what you suffered from with b 12 deficiency? I'm due at Dr's next wk so I will ask thank you. I'm having trouble eating so could well be a deficiency. I've also seen it's a symptom of coeliac disease too so was wondering if anyone knows bout that. Many thanks

Hi shbowker, I was speaking to a friend of mine who has crohn's and she has found problems with b12 has made her i.b.s. I would also ask about p.p.i's used to treat gerd and other i.b.s related illnesses! These medicines can stop the absorption of b12! I'm disgusted with my doctors I've asked for months why I've been so ill but after 18 months am finally getting to the bottom of my health concerns and heads will roll, due to leaving my health so long. Push for what you want - I've had to!
