Hi Ls15

Yes I can sympathise with you. Last year I had quite a few episodes of a very sore tongue. My dentist referred me to maxilla F - he said I was possibly clenching my jaw at night. Following that it cleared up but I had subsequent episodes throughout the year - and it came on suddenly- always on one side.

Best treatment is salt washes. Then rub a bit of salt on your tongue. It does work - but not a brilliant taste!! Rub some in before you go to bed

I carry a few little salt sachets with me (like you get in a cafe) - really handy so you can carry on doing it through the day. It should get better quite quickly

Hope this help. It's a really miserable complaint.

Regards

Hi Frankie, that makes sense as I often have aching in my bottom jaw and my dentist thinks I clench my teeth!! When i’m Stressed I realise I am doing it and hadn’t connected it to my tongue! The salt must be pretty horrible but if it works I will give it a go, my tongue is mainly sore at the end!! Thank you so much for your reply, Laine

Hi Frankie1955, I will try that. I'v had a sore tounge on one side for about two years, dentist and hospital can't seem to help. I do wonder whether it is connected to my IBS-C. How mush salt do you dissolve in a medium size glass? I could just keep a glass handy and use during the day.

Hi bigbun

Half a glass of cooled boiled water and a good teaspoon of salt - excellent mouth wash

The raw salt on the tongue is very effective

Hi Frankie1955, thank you for your reply, it was a great help. I tried the raw salt last night, it wasn't to bad and did the mouth wash this morning and will continue doing that after meals. I may also buy the gel that Slt1971 suggested. I never thought of any of these things, but the medicated mouth wash and cream given to me by the hospital did not make any difference. I'll let you know how it goes 😃

Hi Nikolai666, I have two things going on with my tongue, a sore patch which the hospital are keeping an eye on, apparently it never goes ( can’t remember what they called it ). Then my tongue is always covered in a yellow film, even tongue brushing makes no difference as comes back the same day. Given up on trying to get rid of it. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Hi Bigbunbun3,

Thank you kindly for your reply, so sorry to hear that you still suffering, as for me my tongue feels sore and covered with white slightly yellowish colour film, my whole mouth feels burning and dry, Tried fluconazole, Nystatin and Daktarin but sadly no relieve whatsoever. Mine came suddenly after a course of antibiotics! Funny thing is I was trying to kill a bacterial infection I ended up with a fungal infection! Currently to Waiting to see a specialist.

Hi Nikolai666, it’s strange how many problems just the tongue can have, the specialist should be able to help you. Hope all goes well 🤗
