Fresh red blood

Hi all

I've just noticed blood through my stool yesterday and today. It's quite red and looks fresh. I am terrified, and have booked an appointment with an out of hours GP. Has anyone had this before?

Hey , I had fresh blood 2/ 3 times from the start of this year , yip it freaked me out as well , had all the test done- all came back clear , the last time it happened to me was definitely stress related, but you’ve done the right thing and making an appointment to see your doctor, even if it’s just for peace of mind, take care

It could be piles too. Do not worry too much, I've had the same symptoms and it was Piles from going so often due to my IBS

Yes red blood more likely to be piles, particularly if bright red. But medical check needed.

It can also be from eating a lot of meat when you are not used to it. That happens to me on holiday.

Hi without being too graphic. The blood in the stools could be a sign of being slightly constipated. What happens is if you eat certain things that as I say bungs you up the stools build up inside and Go slightly hard. Do when you need the toilet it is hard for you so then you strain and this can cause tears in the anus which also creates piles. If the blood is streaky then this is a sign of what I have said. I hope this helps.

I would get an appointment with your GP just to give you peace of mind as it could be a fissure ( piles ) that is in there and try to ask for a FIT test that can be done in your own home and when you get the results you can go from there and it can rule out anything else SORRY but that is all I can suggest and I hope all will be OK so take care and try not 2 worry ( easier said than done ) as I am waiting for a home test 2 come in the post that is all I can do but if you are in the UK ring 111 and see what they say!!!

Yes, I have had this. The first time it was an anal tear (fissure) and was accompanied by a lot of pain when going to the toilet. The second time was piles and these caused itching and some pain when on the toilet. Red blood is v rarely anything to worry about as it means there is a bleed coming from close to the anus hence the blood is fresh. If you have no pain then it could be internal piles which are more often pain free. Anyway, there are simple and effective treatments out there so try not to worry your GP will do the necessary checks and you can get the meds they prescribe.

I have had it for years - I think it came originally from pushing a bit hard. If I have an episode with several visits to the loo with diahorrea, this can bring it on for me for a number of days. I have done the stool test as I am in my 50s and the doctor requested a more sensitive test - both came back negative fairly recently. You are doing the right thing seeing the doctor for peace of mind. Additionally, sometimes get a red blood streak down the stool which is where it is rubbing against a pile of other lesion. I think we are all guilty of thinking the worse and visiting Dr Google which makes us worry and it even says on there, it probably isn't anything serious but best to get it checked.

Hiya Ibs_1,

I've had this a few times. It's quite common in Ibs to be honest. Been sent to hospital and had tests to check it out. Last time it was a self healing cyst which bled, healed a little then bled again and so on. It stopped bleeding within 2 months and I had no other symptoms. Years later I'm still here and not had another bleed. I do admit that at the time I was highly stressed so it could've played a part, I'm not sure. Please try to not be upset, just try to go with it, which is what I did. Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍
