I was told that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is under the disabilities and equalitys act yet I can't find anything to support it, I am now being monitored at work, I thought they understood but they don't. I need more evidence.
Hi please help!!: I was told that Irritable... - IBS Network
Hi please help!!
hi. i have just been granted disability status after 20+ years of IBS-D , i have been housebound for nearly 10yrs due to IBS-D . i found that my GP did not fully understand my situation [ even though i have been attending him for 20+ yrs ] and didn't write a strong enough letter .eventually i was sent for more tests and for the past two years i have been appealing the decision that i did not have a disability , i sent all hospital test results , doctors names and phone numbers . and this week i got a letter to say i am classed as having a disability . but in general until someone gets a stomach bug they don't understand what i go through every day . trisha [ Ireland ]
Sorry this is happening to you, it's not going to make you feel any better being monitored.
If you do have access to Union support it would be worth contacting them, this is the sort of stuff they're there to support people with. If not, you should be entitled to take a supporter in with you to any meetings about it so you have a witness to what's being said.
If you haven't seen a consultant, or not for a while, it would be worth asking for a referral so that any medical assessment takes that into account.
If you have access to Occupational Health at your workplace they should understand your difficulties and be able to advise your managers.
I'm sorry if none of this applies to you, I realise that if you're working for a small business you may not have access to Union or occupational health support.
Hope you can get it sorted out soon.
