Hi everyone, just looking for some help. Been diagnosed with IBS. I have the usual constant bloat no matter what. Belly cramps, they feel more so like period cramps, they come really harsh like a contraction then usually I Have to run to the loo. Upper belly and lower to the sides also hurt. I have been constipated recently for the first time, which is Unsual for me.
I was wondering if it is normal for these cramps and also for it to be worse in the morning? I find the second I open my eyes I have a little tummy pain, pass wind and then I’m back and fourth to the toilet, usuallu constipated then changes to very loose.
Wondered if anyone else struggles tbe same?! And If the cramps are normal - anythinh to help all of this!

All symptoms of ibs.. Bloating, cramps the lot.
Try drinking some ginger tea it's really good for the bloating...
Welcome! You now start the journey of finding out what foods effect you the most eg the bloating, keep a food diary. With me the bloating and all associated symptoms of IBS were worse around period time, then I found out I had Endo so treatment and meds followed and it did help. Us ladies do have all our bits in the same area 🤭so it can be difficult to define if it's Endo or IBS causing the current discomfort. Wish you good luck on your journey🍀
Consider going on the gaps protocol. You’re going to need to find out which foods are Triggering your symptoms. And elimination diet is a great idea. Also consider that you might have dysbiosis, If you’ve taken a lot of antibiotics or Steroids In the past. If you have IBS then you need to get off the grains and possibly dairy. The body has a remarkable way to heal itself. You just have to give it the tools. You’ll get through this.
Hi the cramps and loose stools could be overflow diarrhoea if you're constipated the pain with this is horrendous as you've said jist like labour pains I nearly passed out when I had it! The others have given you some good advice I did the fodmap which helped to identify the things that were making my guts react. Good luck x
Hi it might be worth cutting out gluten and lactose and following Low Fodmap diet. I also take Alflorex probiotic which helps. It seemed to take a few weeks for it to have any real effect
Hi I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. I'm 57 and suffered with IBS for most of my life. It got to a point where I thought I couldn't go on! Until a new doctor said try the FODMAP diet, and the most important thing to eliminate is all things allium. So no onions, garlic, leeks etc and most importantly onion powder and garlic powder which is in most convenient foods you buy. All stock cubes etc, soups, ready meals, flavoured crisps, the lot. I also cut out peas, mushrooms, all brassicas, asparagus. It's worked. I'm just about symptom free. Good luck xx
I have had really bad cramps where I’m in agony but I have managed to cut it down now. Have you looked at the FODMAP diet many drs recommend it. Are you drinking lots of caffeine that can trigger you? You need to look at what your eats and drinking. I went completely dairy free. I’m definitely not free more symtoms but it’s got better. X
It's really horrible. Look at the FODMAP diet and see if you have any triggers, cut out dairy and Caffine, take probiotics each day, Ginger, Calamine and Peppermint teas are friends, you may also find it useful to ask your Dr for an SSRI such as Citalopram
Hi I've tried over the counter capsules called Colpermin, which are based on peppermint, also as a alternative I've used buscopan at times, before that I tried Silicogel, which inmy case worked for severe ibs rather than spasms.Good luck.
Do you know what your triggers are? First step would be to find out what they are by keeping a wellness diary this will help to identify what your triggers are and learning what works for you have a read about the dairy here theibsnetwork.org/blog/how-...
There may be other factors that are linked to your symptoms that have nothing to do with food, ie stress, anxiety life style factors, work. Taking medications, may well not be the answer.
Taking medications and diet, lifestyle changes ect will help but once you have discovered your triggers, there may be something causing them that you are not aware of and then you can start to look at what works for you diet or medication and self-management. A healthy diet isn’t always the solution some parts of that healthy diet may be a trigger food for you. Have a look at this factsheet here IBS (bda.uk.com)
Have you looked at and worked through the self care programme? There is a huge amount of information on there re symptoms and medications There can be nothing as embarrassing as gas | The IBS Network
