It's enough (new buddy here)
Hi there, I already apology for my poor english. I'm a french speaking guy from Québec (Canada) and I end up on your board because is the only active and interesting one I found about asthma. I'm a 23 year old, severe asthmatic since I was 2 and in the last year it got worse. Until last summer, even

The awkwardness of peak flow...
So, my PF isn't a very sensitive measure day to day, but it dropped during a recent, long, pretty bad flare-up, down to maybe 65-75% most days. Not crisis but not as good as it could be considering normally it doesn't drop much even when I have symptoms! However, I thought this indicated something was

Back on Pulmicort thank goodness.
2 months ago I was taken off Pulmicort after being on it for 30 years. Doc saying "new guidlines" specify not all patients with asthma/emphysema should be on preventitive steriods. Since stopping Pulmicort i had to use Ventolin much more than ever before. Phone BLF and was told i definately should be

Confused about when to call GP
I'm kind of confused about when to call my GP. The way I usually think about these things is: a) you only call a doctor if you are ill b) you only call the doctor if you can't fix the problem yourself c) you try to avoid calling the doctor any more than you have to because he's clearly busy Except

SLOPPY
Over the last few days several things have cropped up on here that made me wonder about taking my inhalers. Was I getting sloppy after eleven years? Answer? Yep! This morning I re-read all the instructions and added to them comments made on here. Started off with the Ventolin, waited 15 minutes,

What exercise do you do? Does anyone use a Wii?
I'm diagnosed with moderate COPD with FEV1 at 62% and FVC at 63%. At the moment I manage on just Spiriva and I have a Ventolin (salbutamol) inhaler but I'm trying not to use it as I seem to get discomfort in my chest with it and want to discuss with the nurse if there is an alternative. I know I am not

recurrent chest infections
I keep getting chest infections, having had 4 since October 2012. Each time it is treated with antibiotics and clears up, however, I seem to pick up another within just a few weeks. I use symbicort, montelukast and ventolin to control my asthma, and doxycycline for chest infections (because I am allergic

Inhaler and spacer removed from classroom to headteacher officer
Hi! I would like to know if there are any policies that support a child with asthma at school regarding where to be kept there Ventolin and Spacer. My daughter just turned up 6 and is at year 1. She is asthmatic and winter is a dificult time for her. The headmistress decided without any notice to remove

How long before I die???
I've been plagued for 3/4yrs with one chest infection after another. (I am a smoker) I've had more antibiotics and steroids than I can count, but they've never really gotten rid of the problem. I had the spiro-thing test and they said I had asthma. (At 44yrs old?? ) Then more chest infections. This has

Nebuliser usage
I have just bought my wife a nebuliser as the nurse at the g.p surgery told her one might help here asthma, now they will not dispense the medication to go in it, can anyone suggest where to buy some , she uses ventolin inhalers now but they do not always help

To nebulise or not to nebulise, that is the question?
There appears to be a fair amount of conjecture amongst the COPD medical fraternity as to the merits or otherwise of nebulising. They accept that there are occasions when, in the case of asthmatics when nebulising medication is beneficial, especially when the sufferer is gasping for breath and unable

My appointment with Dr. Hopeless
Well, my appointment with Dr. Hopeless (as she's known locally) went as well as I expected, she's about as much use as a chocolate teapot! My first encounter with her was about five and a half weeks ago to get the consultant's diagnosis. I wasn't told the diagnosis but I was told "You need an inhaler

Ventolin inhaler use
I was officially diagnosed recently with COPD (I had been told in the past that I had 'mild emphysema'). GP had sent me to A&E due to SOB and low sats - I was prescribed a SPIRIVA inhaler by the hospital (but contra-indications mentioned kidney disease SO I spoke to my GP and said I was wary of taking
