This may of been asked before, but how and where can you buy these cheaper ventolin. Ive seen things mentioned that Asda sell them for £12 for 2 but they cant be difficult to obtain. Any one managing it?

Why would you want to buy it...if you need it get it on prescription.
Its a lot cheaper that way as I have to pay for all of mine, Yes just a few quid but all adds up.

David, it may not apply to you, but I've posted a blog today on help with health costs which could be of interest to you. I was paying for mine up until a few years ago as I didn't get the magic benefits that qualify you for free prescriptions. I still don't get those benefits, but qualify for free prescriptions under an HC2 certificate. Worth checking out. Libby
Being nosey (I am known for it) I googled the cost of the inhalers and the cheapest I can find is £22.00 for two. Why don't you ask your Doctor to put 2/3 on your script you would only pay the 1 item price £7.65.

Excellent suggestion ! My respiratory nurse rewrote the quantity on my repeat prescriptions for me as 3 Ventolin, 2 Symbicort and 2 Spirava - it was invaluable.
Yes Jan I have tried this but its £7.65 (or more soon) per item and as far as the pre paid goes I often struggle to pay for my sybicort every month, hvae no chance of saving up for a years supply. Every route I go down for help seems to be shut with IDS meddling. I wish it could be like the diabetics.

Prepay - you can pay monthly out of your bank for...it's £10.50 a month. I have one cos I have nine or so items on mine.
PS - you can fill the application in online too.
would it not be cheaper for you to purchase a six monthly or 12 monthly pre- paid prescription, enquire at your local chemist
nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcos... has more info on that.
I just checked my local pharmacy, as they do an on-line service - you would need the prescription still. They charge £14.99 for 2 inhalers, plus P&P
Hi frozennorth
I have just spoken with our nurse - i know this is hard but let your GP know hard hard it is for your to pay for your medication - it is vitally important you have enough medication, this may make the GP put more items on your script.
As always please call if we can help further.
Cheers
Jo
I have asked my doctor but all he will write a prescription for is 1 ventolin inhaler. I questioned this and told him that I know other doctors who give more on the same prescription but he still would not so I have to mess about getting a repeat prescription about every 3 weeks. I have started buying a 3 month exempt certificate and with the other meds I need it works out cheaper.
This may sound stupid but don't you qualify for free prescriptions when you have lung disease. I am over 60 so I get mine free, before 60 I had asthma and allergies so did not qualify so I paid for the annual prepaid prescriptions. I know it can be very expensive but not as expensive as paying monthly for every item. I now have 21 items on my repeat prescription and I shudder at the thought of having to pay for all of them. I look forward to hearing your replies. Maximonkey
