Nebuliser usage

I have just bought my wife a nebuliser as the nurse at the g.p surgery told her one might help here asthma, now they will not dispense the medication to go in it, can anyone suggest where to buy some , she uses ventolin inhalers now but they do not always help

nurse should speak to gp and explain saline nebs might help as they lubricare airways

How can the resp. nurse at the surgery suggest you go to the expense of buying a nebuliser then the surgery won't prescribe the medication, have they given you a reason.

That sounds like madness! How annoying. I think you should go back to the nurse and explain you have bought one and ask her what she can do to help? Perhaps you could make an appointment with the doctor and explain? Good luck TAD xx

Hi, I, and a few others in this forum, have been told by our copd nurses/gp's that 12-15 puffs of ventolin in a spacer is equivalent to using a nebuliser. Am not suggesting for one minute that you try this without speaking to your own healthcare professional, but is something to consider. Agree with the others, how ridiculous to suggest a nebuliser then deny you the drugs for it! Libby

I have both that i use four times a day and i got mine off immunology but if you have a specialist that you see at the chest clinic at the hospital he might supply you with some medication. My GP, Chest specialist and immunology specialist all work together which helps. Good luck Libby

Thank you for the replies folks, the nurse at the surgery has said it's up to the doc to prescribe she can only advise ........even although she is meant to be the asthma clinic nurse yet she can prescribe inhalers, g.p says that he p.c.t stop him prescribing unless specialist says to have it, have now demanded an appointment for wife to see them..........red tape gone mad yet again me thinks , thanks again

Generally, a nebuliser can only be prescribed via hospital. Once I got mine the saline was prescribed by GP. I only use saline in mine. I wouldn't be without it. Ten minutes every morning, good cough and I'm usually good to go. I bought a small inverter to use it in the car. Brilliant.

yes i have heard of this happing but as micksterbs nebs will only be prescribed via hospital then only will you get the meds for it not till then, can you ask to see a speaclist or a consltant?they will be able to tell you if your wife needs one.

can you take it back and get a refund?

if not you can by saline water and just use to losen the mucus that builds up.
