Winter blues
I have had asthma for many years and at present, I am on Fostair and Ventolin. I get through the spring and summer ok, but This time of the year when the weather gets damp, my asthma is much worse. I get a terrible cough that goes on and on and my breathing becomes much worse. I am not sure what to do

Breathing through a straw
Hi, I’m quite new to asthma, so thanks for your patience. I’m on Symbicort, morning and night, which I am always careful to take. I had begun to get it under control over the last few weeks until about three days ago, when I got the typical breathing through a straw thing again. When it happens I

Peak flow and trial of treatment
Hi I’m new here, just looking for some thoughts and advice... Back in spring I had a virus, just a cold really, and ended up with a cough/throat tightness which lasted around 6 weeks. Meantime I received an appt for a shoulder Xray due to a muscular issue. X-ray came back fine but I was subsequently

Something is going on, but what?
Last Monday I wandered off to collect prescriptions, a seven to 10 minutes wal. Though the walk is completely flat, and it was a sunny and fine day, I got very breathless quickly. I struggled on regardless, but got home completely exhausted. Since then I have felt the same kind of breathlessness, often

Spacer cleaning
I have a volumatic spacer which I use to take ventolin if I ever need it. I have used it this week as my asthma flared up due to a virus. I have notice that it has developed a ring around the inside. (I keep it in a bum bag to carry around when I am out and about) I have left it in soak in a my kitchen

Winter refuge
Like probably most on here my asthma is definitely affected by cold, and now I am also increasingly noticing the effect of damp. So the rain that has been about the last few days hasn’t done a lot of good for me. We are now thinking of good places to go for a winter holiday. Given climate change etc

Anyone else been through this..?
For the last month I’ve had symptoms doctors can’t tell me what’s going on and it’s really frustrating I had period pain and took naprogesic pills to ease the pain (naprogesic pills contain naproxen and apparently naproxen triggers asthma) which I didn’t have at the time. Minutes later I started to

Home Nebuliser
Before being discharged from hospital following 9 day stay with yet another dose of pneumonia (2nd in 6 weeks) I asked about having a nebuliser to use at home as more relief from that than my spacer and ventolin but was refused for the third time,, although when you first get admitted that’s what they

I have found that my condition improved after my other inhalers were changed to a 1 a day inhaler called Trelegy this was recommended by my Community Health respiratory team. Still, have Ventolin inhaler when necessary and I use diskhaler type for better inhaler control breathing in delivers a dose

Normal flora
Hi, glad to join. I have asthma and bronchiectasis following a chemical accident with ammonia 11 years ago. Whenever I have a “chest infection” my doctor sends off a sputum sample (before antibiotics started) but it always comes back as normal flora. My respiratory consultant says this is not a chest

Treadmill Transition Run no. 1
As per my clothes porn post yesterday, I went out with Mrs LeeU while she did a week 3 run. We selected a local park to run in and headed down there, the grass had been cut recently and it was, obviously very dewy. We did the warm up walk and then set off running, I was listening to music and relying

Interpreting spirometry test results

Still struggling, really need some answers!
Hi everyone! Once again I have some questions to ask! I know I've been posting quite often on this site but I found it to be very useful (I learned many things that I wouldn't have otherwise! So I thank everyone who took the time to answer my previous questions!) I've started a third course of oral

GP visit update
Hi all, me again. Well, I went to see my GP this morning after my 2 hospital visits last week. Apparently, the doctor who looked after me in AEC on Saturday has diagnosed me with severe brittle asthma? At least that is what he has put on the discharge report to the GP. So, I guess it's good that I know

How to prevent attack in smoky rental car?
Hi folks, I picked up a rental car for a short staycation at a hotel a few hours' away. The first car they produced had that horrible stale smoke masked by cigarette smell odor. They brought a second which smelled almost as bad, but as they were about to close and they staff looked like they wanted

What could be the reason for steroids not working ?
Hi everyone, I've been using Seretide 250 (two puffs twice a day) for 2 months now and I still feel the same (using around 20 puffs of ventolin everyday, nebs 3 times a day). My symptoms are still there almost all the time : tight chest and struggle to breathe. The intensity of the symptoms vary throughout
