I have had asthma for many years and at present, I am on Fostair and Ventolin. I get through the spring and summer ok, but This time of the year when the weather gets damp, my asthma is much worse. I get a terrible cough that goes on and on and my breathing becomes much worse. I am not sure what to do about it. Can an Asthma nurse help. Is there anything else that I take or do to help make things a bit better. The damp weather goes on for a long time so this is really a big problem. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Winter blues
Do try the asthma nurse. Have you tried the AsthmaUK helpline? The nurses there are helpful. I would recommend it. I am bad during the winter as well. It doesn't help that I have kids. They pick up germs at school and bring them home to me! I am taking a high dose vitamin C. I think it helps somewhat. The GP also recommended a humidifier. I think in the winter, the radiators dry things out too much. But then damp is a problem for me so I have to try to maintain a safe balance. It's not easy. Good luck and do try the Asthma UK helpline.

Check out the effects of mold, fungi etc. These are usually a bigger problems when it is damp. The colder air holds more moisture for the most part. Mold spores are also more prevalent.
