So I'm trying to find ways to get motivated to exercise. I want to lose weight in preparation for a transplant. I have no donor yet, but I was told I would gain weight from steroids taken after your transplant. Can anyone give more insight on that? I at least want to try. I'm on my second week of clean

Heart failure support after diagnosis
Hi, my Dad has recently been diagnosed with heart failure which is in the later stages. He has been very unwell: he is 78, has kidney dialysis 3 times/week, was recently in hospital with sepsis and pleural effusions and also has the HF. He is often short of breath at rest and has a persistent cough and

5+ months post transplant🙂
I received Cindy, my deceased donor kidney (I’ve named my new kidney Cindy after a dear friend who strongly encouraged me to pursue transplant eligibility testing), on Wed, Nov 16, 2022. So, technically I’m a little more than 5 months post transplant. Regardless, I thought an update might be helpful

Fistula pain
I've had a fistula for 2 years. I have NOT started dialysis yet. My GFR has stayed in the mid twenties, a surprise to all my doctors. In the meantime my hand gets numb and tingling sometimes. Yesterday something new happened. I had a few powerful sneezes in a row, thank you spring, and got a sharp pain

ARTIFICIAL LIVER
Good news , maybe we don’t have to wait for a liver transplant after all. I didn’t realise that machines existed that can carry out the function of the liver, at this stage they are external like kidney dialysis. Would think you have to hooked up permanently as the liver is always working.

Switching to home hemodialysis
I have been on peritoneal dialysis using a cycler, which has been wonderful, for two years. Unfortunately my clearance has been falling over the last four months and treatment increase in the amount of dextrose has caused me to gain nearly 30 lb. My clinic has me scheduled to begin training for home

Statins
I just finished watching - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MSNUjQt0u0 I find it fascinating that doctors are aware that statins don't work on dialysis patients, even the KDIGO guidelines say not to prescribe them, and yet doctors still will go ahead and lower LDL using statins. I know I am on one .

Queen is a busy bee
Hi all, I haven't left you, but these are the last two weeks of school. Then I'll have the summer off. I'm concerned dialysis is getting closer and closer. My creatine number is slowly creeping up. I don't even like to say the number out loud because it is so very upsetting. I have to realize that dialysis

can you swim when on dialysis?
After my catheter insertion, I was told I can’t swim in a pool due to risk of infection. I haven’t been in a pool for over a year and I really miss it. I’m going on holiday with my family this summer where there’s going to be a lovely pool and I was thinking of different ways I can swim safely, if possible

Beta Globulin deposits in dialysis patients
I am on Dialysis for 4 yrs after my first transplant failed. I have started developing knee joint pain most probably due to beta globulin deposits. Anyone experienced this? Any possible treatment for this? I have asked my dialysis center for high flux dializer. But I could not find any treatment. Alternative

Kidney Commute CE Study Guide: Depression and Dialysis
CKD patients on dialysis are four times more likely to experience depression than the general public. A new study is hoping to change this by testing treatment options. Learn more. https://www.kidney.org/newsletter/kidney-commute-ce-study-guide-depression-and-dialysis

""BRAIN FOG""
Hi I am a 70 male I had a sister who gave me a kidney Aug 2015, as having been on dialysis 9 moths I was on the way out. I have a good weight 70 kg, 5ft 5 height walk every day with Archie but I feel at times in a bit of a "Brain Fog"

PD Dialysis Issues - Can't Catch a Break
So, I went from stage three to Failure very quickly (less than a year). My plan was always to go straight to PD, as it seemed to best fit my life. My doc had other plans and was almost instantly in the hospital having a chest tunnel put in for Hemo. That was ok in the beginning and my fistula was then
