Does it get easier?
I was in ICU for 3 weeks and had some horrendous hallucinations when I was coming off the sedatives and had a
tracheostomy
. I just wanted to ask other people, do you think it ever gets easier to think about? Will there be a time when it doesn't feel like such a huge part of my life?

User names
As it come up to my 5th anniversary on 18th December of being admitted to ICU I often think why someone has chose the user name they have. For me Luckyone is because I believe I was incredibly lucky to survive, had it not snowed the night before I would not be writing this, as my wife would have gone

My husband had a cardiac arrest 5 weeks ago and he has hypoxia brain damage
He went into icu for 2 weeks where he was in a coma on a ventilator but he improved enough to have a
tracheostomy
which he only had for two days and it was removed because he was able to breathe on his own.

Hello
Hello - just joined - have mum in hospital at the moment with copd flare up. Feeling sad that she is struggling with fighting infection which she thinks is in her tracheotomy scar leaving her unable to eat and drink - dr says she doesn't and its anxiety? Anyone with similar experience?

Following up from Discharge
Took me a year to get over the physical aspects and 2 years to get over the PTSD after being taken off my ventilator and having a
tracheostomy
tube in place. I had the usual hallucinations and paranoia in ICU and took me ages to come to terms with my experiences.

Tracheotomy Trouble
Anyone woke up from their coma and found communication difficult ? Even after 3 days awake they wouldn't put a speaking valve in and expected me to write things down on a piece of paper on a clipboard. After 4 weeks of a coma and ventilation I didn't have the strength to write anything down at all. I

Hashimotos....life after surgery.
I have had thyroid problmes for years and on levothyroxine for the past 6/7 years under the care of my GP. Fatigue has always been an issue, but as a mother with a disabled son I just got on with life...busy, busy working and looking after the family, then about 2 years ago the fatigue seemed to take

THE ICU
Stein's room, over the next couple of weeks, his condition improved enough to where he was able to get a
tracheostomy
, and was able to get off of the ventilator graduating to Oxygen via mask after 48 hours on a T-Piece simulator with the ventilator which was set to what is known as the TPS settings.
