Pravastatin vs. Simvastatin
My LDL cholesterol has gone up considerably in the last couple years. I'm not sure if it is an inflammatory response to all the radiation, but regardless, I am thinking of adding a statin. I have read and my MO agrees there may be a mild benefit in the prostate cancer battle to adding a statin. Does

New cholesterol drug
My partner and I have just come of Statins as we were having dreadful side effects from them, the doctor has offered us a new drug, or one that we haven’t heard of, it’s called Ezetimibe. It’s surposed to lower cholesterol but without the side effect!! They are specifically for people who get adverse

Ezetimibe
Hi all. Today i have been discharged from the hospital as i refuse to take statins. I was blatantly told that their job is to prescribe medication and if i refuse to take it, they will refer me back to my gp who can monitor my cholesterol via blood tests. Fair enough but before they completely remove

Cholesterol or not to Cholesterol
The doctor at hospital told me he thought I’d had a silent heart attack because my archery’s had narrowed, and asked if I had high cholesterol? I said I don’t know I’ve never had it checked. He then prescribed me a cholesterol tablet. I saw the heart failure nurse and asked about getting my cholesterol

Advice please
I was recently prescribed Simvastatin 20mg tablets, but met someone whose parents were on this med. for a while. She said their inability to be mobile was due to Simvastatin, although I was advised that one of the side effects is muscle wastage. I have since stop taking but I need advise and people's

Simvastatin and Valentine's Day
I had my every 3 month follow-up with my Rheumatologist today. (He's one of the good ones.) I was nervous and prepared myself for 'battle' as I was going to have to confess that I had stopped taking Simvastatin. We discussed about all my aches, pains, sed rate, blah blah blah. It was getting toward

Always had blue & white fingers in cold as a child relieved with piriton. Then I got it again after MI - cardiac & realised ,when read inserts to meds which hadn't been given with dosset box, that the side effects of simvastatin was pins & needles. The GP had diagnosed this as Raynauds yet when changed

Advice needed
Hello everyone, I've been following this forum for a couple of years but don't often post. Here is my scenario, diagnosed with PMR in May/June 2016. Put on 10 mg of Pred and fairly instant relief. Had a slow taper , arrived at 6 mg in January 2017 but had a flare so back to 10 mg. It has taken a whole

CRPC & Avodart [Dutasteride].
New study below. Some may recall that I'm in favor of shutting off all escape paths while on ADT - e.g. via Zytiga, Casodex, Simvastatin & Avodart. If you are closing the door, close the windows too. The conventional view is that since 5alpha-reductase converts testosterone [T] to dihtdrotestosterone

Hello.
Hello everyone, I'm Song. I'm a bit of a mess and seem to be on a downward spiral that's speeding up. I have high blood pressure and cholesterol, have tried stations but my lft's went haywire so I'm now on ezetimibe. I'm 50 almost 51, overweight and have other health problems that make exercise difficult

Statin
I saw my Internist this morning to go over last labs. In discussing my cholesterol, he sent a msg to my GI asking his thoughts on getting back on statin. GI responded quickly & approved as long as they both keep an eye on enzymes. I researched Journal of Lipid Research & looked into their clinical trials

Microvascular angina
Hi All. I am new here (and to forums generally)! In 2012, at the age of 36 I was diagnosed with microvascular angina. It took a long time to get the diagnosis because a few months earlier I had an unexplained DVT which was subsequently attributed to Factor V Leiden. The doctors initially thought it

Jevtana [Cabazitaxel] & Androgen Status.
New Dutch study below. Jevtana is a taxane (as is Taxotere), & was approved by the FDA for men with CRPC in 2010. Typically, in castrate-resistant PCa [CRPC], the cancer remains androgen-sensitive & has found alternative sources. For instance, there is a potential pathway that produces DHT (dihydrotestosterone

Ezetimibe anyone?
My consultant recently wrote to me and advised that she wanted me to start ezetimibe as my alk phos was higher than she was comfortable with at 280. I can find nothing online about the use of this drug in PBC and don't like blindly taking things without knowing a bit more about it. I have an appointment

Question and opinions about cholesterol
Basic facts. I'm a 66 year old male. Diagnosed with high cholesterol years ago. Initially prescribed Atorvastatin 10mg daily for a number of years. Eventually I often said to my wife, in response to things she said, " You didn't tell me that!" She always suggested that she had. This went on for quite

Alk phos level and ezetimibe
I have just been told that at 285 my alk phos is too high and I should start another drug called ezetimibe on top of the urso. I have to stop breastfeeding my 15 week old as a result so I just wanted any thoughts on this prior to taking this step which I'm quite upset about.
