Simvastatin and Valentine's Day

I had my every 3 month follow-up with my Rheumatologist today. (He's one of the good ones.) I was nervous and prepared myself for 'battle' as I was going to have to confess that I had stopped taking Simvastatin. We discussed about all my aches, pains, sed rate, blah blah blah. It was getting toward the end and I said "There's something else I need to talk to you about. I stopped taking Simvastatin." And then waited for an argument. His response: (No change in affect - kind, understanding, empathic face). "Ok." I said, " That's it??? I thought you'd be upset with me." Him, "No, I'm fine with that." Gesh, all that worry for nothing! That may have been the best Valentine's Day gift I get today.

I hope you all receive a Valentine that is equally as wonderful!

Good to not have to argue.

I think they are very aware of the problems people have with it. Atorvastatin was one of my nemesis drugs and Dr just accepted it.

Hi, Jane!

Yes, statins.

"That may have been the best Valentine's Day gift I get today" -- FYI: it wasn't. But it was a very nice surprise!!! (It would be pretty sad if that was the best Valentine's Day gift ever, wouldn't it?)

The product info sheet for Simvastatin actually now includes the warning: "The following rare serious side effects were reported" and then on the 7th bullet point "pain or inflammation of the joints (polymyalgia rheumatica)". For those who want to show their doctors that, you just have to Search for the "Simvastatin product information sheet" and you can find it and print it.
