First post and I am a wife of a sufferer
Hi and thanks for even reading this. My husband was diagnosed beginning of Sept with alcoholic liver disease and had ascites, oedema, some jaundice, tiredness etc. Our GP has been amazing and he has had the ascites drained ( 8.75L) and condition is we think stable. I'm just finding it hard and ended

Suggestions for reducing spironolactone and furosemide without having a rebound
Anyone with experience or tips for reducing and coming off of diuretics. I have read about and experienced a rebound effect of putting on water weight quickly. My labs are great and my liver seems fine after 7 months of no alcohol, healthy living and some herbs my doctor approved I could take. I

Hi everybody! A few words and questions
Hi guys, I have been a member of this forum group since last month, and although this is my first post, I read the posts and responses on here often. I was discharged from Aintree hospital on November 28 this year, after being in hospital for 3 and a half months. I was first admitted to Oldham Royal

Some really good news at last...
I finally have some good news that I hope one or two other people might hopefully find useful and even encouraging in some way. Following lots and lots of further scans and tests in x-rays during the last couple of months, and after a recent kind of 'summing up' appointment with my GP, I've now been

Hi I have CRVO with macular oedema in my right eye, this happened when I was 46, it’s coming up to a year now and I’ve had 3 lucentis injections and 5 bouts of laser, I’ve recently had the ozurdex implant and i must say that it has improved my sight but I was just wandering if anyone else has had this

Can you ever be compensated again if you have varices ?
Good morning, hope you are all as well as you can be right now. I have been a bit down in the dumps all weekend following a disasterous job interview on Friday. I normally manage to stay fairly positive but definitely got the blues at the moment and have been fretting a bit about my health. I actually

Cirrhosis as a result of Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) - does anyone have any experience of this?
Hi Everyone, I was recently diagnosed with "early stage cirrhosis secondary to Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease" and today I had an endoscopy which showed several (non-bleeding) varices. I was chatting to my brother this afternoon about my diagnosis and tests and he just happened to say "do you remember

Macular degeneration in 2nd eye
I have wet macular degeneration in my right eye for the last 3 years and it has just now started in my left unfortunately. Three days ago I received my first Eylea injection in the left eye and since that time the vision has been worse than it was before the shot - has anyone else experienced this?

PALLIATIVE CARE
Feeling very naked and exposed, Peeps has spent most of September in the Liver Unit at London Bridge Hospital but has finally been sent home to die. There is nothing more that can medically be done. He is now subject to Palliative Care at home with the help of the GP, District and Hospice Nurses but

Confused with my results
Hi I was diagnosed with a fatty liver (284,5.8). I decided to change my lifestyle completely. Did another test 10-15 days later(291,5.7),basically no change. Did another test yesterday(almost 2 months since my initial test. I got rid of the fatty liver(230) but my stiffness level was at 7.8. The doctor

Blood test markers for NAFL?
Hi just a quick question please if anyone knows:- A few years ago a scan revealed I have non alcoholic fatty liver - probably as a result of visceral fat because I did carry some extra weight around my middle. Since then I have taken vitamin E and also lost weight on the low carb/keto diet so short of

Kidneys feel a little sore, or is it lower back?
Hello I'm 2 years post transplant and over the last 5 or 6 days, when I wake up I've had a dull ache towards the right hand side of my lower back. I went to see my GP yesterday and she had a little feel around and she seems to think it's muscle related but I asked for a blood test form and got that

Is This a Spider Nevi?
Is this a spider nevi near my collarbone? I’ve had one removed from near my eye and another on my ear 5 months ago and the dermatologist didn’t seem concerned and said my other Telangiectasias on my face are probably due to genetics and sun. I’m worried I might have an underlying liver disease that is

I apologize for the long post in advance... If you haven't read my previous post I've been a very heavy drinker for 12 years. I've been through withdraw, I've lost relationships, and just overall made some stupid decisions. I'm blessed in that I've managed to hold a great job and marry my beautiful wife

Scan & blood results
Hi all. Hope you’re all keeping well. So had my results yesterday finally. Alcohol related fatty liver. Blood results for liver stiffness have come back ‘slightly elevated’. Consultants said I’ve got to have a ‘special’ ( his words) scan next month to see how stiff it is! Can anyone shed any light on

New to the community
Hi all. I'm post liver transplant and have been writing for british liver trust website. I've faced lots and lots of complications with big effects to my physical and mental health. It's had a big impact on my life. I've been looking for help. I've even thought about palliative residential respite
