A brief intro to me and my life with PBC
The only thing ever helped me with the itch and does still to this day was a medication called
Questran
Light. Doesn't take it away totally but does bring it down to milder tolerable levels.

Question ?
I am on prednisolone, mercaptopurine (cytotoxic cancer drug inplace of aza) urso, omeprazole and sometimes
Questran
, if I have issues with over production of bile. I am also concerned that the HRT I use might be causing problems for my liver.

Questran/colestyramine availability?
I am still having problems in finding
Questran
or Colestyramine in this country. Boots cannot get it and I have not been able to find another source. Is anyone else taking it and, if so, where they do they get it from? Professor Read recommended it to me and I find it a great help.

IBS? Yes/no Confused
I have tried every thing the doctors have surgested from buscapan through to
questran
. The majority do nothing for me or cause different issue. I'm following a gluten and dairy free diet which seems to help. I'm now finding little or no help from the doctors and hospital.

Questran/Colestyramine supply problems
I take
Questran
on a regular basis on the advice of Professor Read and find it very effective. However twice this year I have been unable to get it from the pharmacy. We have now found that it is available in pharmacies in France.

severe itching /burning
The itching and burning are causing massive discomfort along with lack of sleep, the doctors are unwilling to prescribe
questran
for reasons unknown to us , and a general lack of information and general shrugging of shoulders is driving us mad.

My Tips to help all those with the itch which can drive you insane day and night!! (PS photo is of me and hubbys family wedding day 1/5/14).
I have always taken
Questran
Light which definately does help to reduce or sometimes alleviate it completely. Currently I take one sachet before and one sachet after breakfast which keeps the itch at bay during the day at least, with all the above little tricks also.

LEVOTHYROXINE INTERACTIONS - useful list
Cholestyramine (
Questran
) lowers cholesterol by increasing the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids. But it also tends to reduce levothyroxine’s absorption and effect.

Questran and colestyramine best thing that ever happened to me
I have been on these for three/four years and they are the best. I produce to much bile so with ibs d it just horrific and these when the dose is right are fab. They have helped me through my latest and worst flare up (just put a question on re that) whichbi am working through slowly. I have noticed

Anyone on here NOT on Urso for their PBC? How are your LFTS with NOT being on this medicine?
After being off the Urso for about two weeks, whilst the itch did not disappear completely it did become milder, more tolerable and well controlled just taking the
Questran
Light which had always been on for the itch.

Does anyone on here think that maybe the dosage per kilo for Urso is wrong and needs to be reviewed by those who do that? I do.
I do still itch but I take
Questran
one sachet before and one sachet after breakfast and this keeps it more or less at bay during the day. Night time still bit of a nuisance and most nights it wakens me and i have to take another

or two in the night.
