Has anyone been put on a drug like Questran, who didn't have full-blown diahorea?

I was put on Questran many years ago in an attempt to lower Cholesterol. All it did was give me the wind with no lowering of my cholesterol.

Hi there I have just started on this medication this week, not really for dia but because of having my gall bladder out 40 years ago, which acts on the bile in your stomach, and now having some liver damage due to methotrexate, doctors believe it is causing me stomach issues???????????? can I ask why you were put on it? cheers Trish

As a trial in case I've got Bile Acid malabsortion. I'm actually on Cholestragel - which is supposed to be more effective (and more expensive!!!)

I came off the Questran and was put on another cholesterol lowering drug which didn`t lower my cholesterol and gave me tummy problems. I have tried many others to no avail so now I don`t take anything.

Mostly abdominal pain which woke me sometimes in the night.

I think it was probably trapped wind causing the pain.

hi im taking cholestyramine lite, abt 7 months now it does bloat me and cause wind if dosage not worked out right for you. i started on 1 quarter sachet twice a day but now on 2 sachets a day which works for me. i take the original flavour as get a lot of cramps with orange flavour.. i take to treat B A M . hi i used to have to use toilet 11 to 15 times a day i also had pains in right side of abdomen [ which felt like there was a hard ball trying to burst out my stomach . and my stomach used to feel like it was on fire and very hot to the touch ] but now i use toilet 5 to 7 times a day and pain and burning gone. i was diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption after having i b s for 20+ years.

HOw were you diagnosed with BAM? How long did it take before you noticed an improvement?

i was given a SEHCAT SCAN . i was given a small capsule to swallow which contains an minut amount of radiation and then scanned 3 hours later. then scanned again 1 week later. the cholestyramine started working in about 3 days .
