Thyroid Removel
I am on
Propylthiouracil
and was told I can’t take this for ever and will be having my thyroid removed very soon. I am very nervous about having this done, they have said I have no choice. What will I be like without the thyroid.

Indefinite antithyroid drug therapy in toxic Graves’ disease: What are the cons
The ATDs used belonged to thionamide class and includes methimazole (MMI), carbimazole, and
propylthiouracil
(PTU). Maximum clinical response occurs after a latent period of 4-6 weeks and ATD therapy should be continued for a period of 12-18 months after achieving euthyroidism.

Reverse T3 interacts with αvβ3 integrin receptor and restores enzyme activities in the hippocampus of hypothyroid developing rats
Congenital hypothyroidism was induced by adding 0.05%
propylthiouracil
in the drinking water from gestation day 8 and continually up to lactation day 15. In the in vivo rT3 exposure, hypothyroid 12-day old pups were daily injected with rT3 (50 ng/kg body weight) or saline until day 14.

Graves disease treatment
I read that
Propylthiouracil
(PTU) is an alternative that some people find much better than carbimazole. I don't think that he has had his thyroid antibodies checked but don't know if this is necessary.

Thyroid problem
I was diagnosed with an over active thyroid in Jan 2015, I’ve been on different medicated and for the last 8 months I’ve been on a stable dose of
propylthiouracil
. Recently I’ve been having mood swings, serious irritability, sweating, itchy skin and hot and cold flushes. Is this my thyroid again?

Overactive Thyroid
I was then switched too
Propylthiouracil
which seems to be working well. Had my first Endocrinology appointment today and have been advised too have the radioactive Iodine treatment, which is exactly what I didn't want. Has anybody had this treatment?

Cholestyramine as monotherapy for Graves’ hyperthyroidism
From time to time we have seen someone suffering from hyperthyroidism who has had problems with carbimazole and
propylthiouracil
. This brief paper/note could be of interest to anyone in that dreadful situation.
