PTU
It's over ten years ago since I was on that so I can't really remember but I know I felt better on that than on Carbimazole
Hi, I had to come off Carbimazole after a really strange side effect and was put on PTU. I was on it for a year or so, came off it and was in remission for all of 3-4 months before I started again with the hell of thyroid. Was put back on it till I had a TT in January 2016. I didn't suffer on it like I did with Carbimazole. The effects I had I do not know if they were to do with PTU but were more to do with being Hyper/Hypo and menopausal.
I do not know what I would have done had I not had PTU as I could not take Carbimazole.
Sorry for not being able to be more specific but hope it helps a bit.
Hi, I actually prefer propylthiuracil to methimazole. Yes, at the beginning the side effects can be annoying (nausea etc) but it works much more effectively than methimazole (in my case). balances the thyroid out completely, instead of having ft3 up and ft4 down which was very strange and had me feeling alternately anxious and depressed. I would say to give it a go!
