Worried about my meds for graves
My daughter has collected it for me and I'm a bit shocked it's now
propylthiouracil
400mg taken throughout the day I see my specialist in 3 weeks and I'll ask her then but I don't really want to take them. I've rang her number but she must of left.

Where’s the harm in GPs prescribing over-the-counter medicines for free?
[/i] http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/apr/12/what-harm-gps-prescribe-over-the-counter-medicine It has always looked to me as if iatrogenic hypothyroidism (that is, caused by doctors prescribing carbimazole or
propylthiouracil
) is every bit as deserving of "free" prescriptions as hypothyroidism

Iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis in a woman with a multinodular goiter taking levothyroxine
On eliminating the sources of exogenous iodine and inhibiting thyroxine biosynthesis with
propylthiouracil
, the process was gradually controlled. A year later the patient was taking no medication and was clinically and chemically euthyroid.

Feeling ill.
The hospital gave me a low dose of
propylthiouracil
. My question is are they wrong because although I feel slightly better than I did I still feel really tired if I do anything. This is the 3rd time in 12 years I have an overactive thyroid.

Lithium as an Alternative Option in Graves Thyrotoxicosis
Nonetheless, there is hope that it could be used at least when carbimazole (they use the very similar methimazole in the USA) and/or
propylthiouracil
are not tolerated.

Help Needed Please.
I should have asked about my meds but forgot, so I am still taking my 50mg
propylthiouracil
twice a day as my dose was reduced by half for damage to my liver, and propranol 160mg once a day. Can't get any medical advice until Monday.

New trends in the management and guidance to reduce the risk of birth defects caused by antithyroid drugs
[/u] Birth defects after the use of methimazole (MMI) (or its prodrug carbimazole) have been considered to be very rare, and no risk has previously been associated with the use of
propylthiouracil
(PTU).

Blood results advice re just discharged from hospital monitoring? Graves disease diagnosed Oct'13.
You have been off 50mg
Propylthiouracil
for 6 months. Your blood test shows you at a good level now and normal so we will discharge you. Go for routine blood test every 3 months for 1 yr, then 6 monthly in year 2. Annual thereafter.

Hyperthyroidism
So doctor has changed my medication to
propylthiouracil
plus propranolol. I assume they all have side effects, but what can be tolerated by one person, another is very sick. Its a lot to take on board all at once, and would appreciate some info from my fellow sufferers. Thank-you.

Agranulocytosis: carbimazole, methimazole and propylthiouracil
There are other causes but in this forum I guess the interest will be when it is caused by the anti-thyroid medicines: carbimazole, methimazole (not used in the UK) and
propylthiouracil
.
