Hyperthyroidism and travel

I have recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (29/3) so I am fairly new to everything. I am taking propranolol and 100mg propylthiouracil a day. I am due back at my doctors on 23/4 for repeat blood tests and then to see my doctor again on 25/4 to review the results. I then have an appointment to see an endocrinologist on 21/5. I am looking for some advice on travelling. I am getting married on 27/4 and we are booked to travel to Bali from Manchester on 1/5. I have been told the doctor will need to review if I can travel or not. Has anyone been in a similar situation and went ahead with travel or didn’t? Also does anyone know what the reason would be for not being able to travel?

I’ve not heard that. I went on holiday shortly after my first relapse, albeit it was only as far as Europe. Endo didn’t have any problem with me going but he advised me against skiing (no exercise whilst numbers are still hyper). So I chilled out in the chalet and read books, met the family for lunch etc. You must disclose it to your travel insurer however, otherwise you won’t be covered if you need medical attention whilst away. Congratulations on the wedding!
