Return of PMR
When I tapered off of
prednisone
I used a super slow method which I don't remember. Can someone please tell me that method? Has anyone out there had it in their hands? Any different than the usual hips and shoulders? Thank you, Skip

Questions about using prednisone for a flare
My doctor said I can have
prednisone
if I need it. I was just wondering how much
prednisone
do most people use for a flare-up I have a 5 mg dosage but I don't really know for how many days to use it. I just wondered if anyone has been able use for short term and get better and stop. Thanks

Hi all Warriors Since being on
prednisone
(since July 2023 at 60mg, now at l6mg) my A1C has slowly crept up. Had blood work yesterday and A1C is now at 7.1. I have been told by my rheumy this is steroid induced and will start going down as I taper.

Stiff and painful neck, a flare?
I’m on 9 mg
prednisone
. I’ve been trying to sort out causes for pain before I try increasing
prednisone
, but it’s a slow process what with waiting for appointments and tests to rule things out. I would appreciate your thoughts.

so confusing
Was treated with
prednisone
until the PMR burned itself little over a year later. Last June, 20 years later, my hands and wrists became a problem. No swelling but pain & stiffness in fingers and wrists. Carpal tunnel syndrome was the first dx.

skin lesions that are not typical bruising from prednisone
My GP said it is vasculitis and immediately put me on what we hope is a short course of 40 mg
prednisone
… very disappointing as I had got down to 5mg. This has been Thanksgiving weekend in the US so cant get in touch with my rheumatologist.

Malecare newsletter reports Finish study glucocorticoids (e.g. prednisone, prednisolone, dexamethasone) can lead to castrate resistance
“However, recent studies have shown that the glucocorticoid receptor also has an oncogenic, or cancer-promoting, effect in cancers like breast and prostate cancer. In prostate cancer, the glucocorticoid receptor can replace the activity of the androgen receptor, which is main oncogenic factor in this

Generic TCZ---is it available in the UK?
I've been on it for five years and will be kept on it as a safeguard when and if I get off of
prednisone
. I would love to think this may make it more available to patients in the UK. Do you think it will?

Pain a week after starting taper
It's easy to have the illusion one is getting better when in fact it's the
prednisone
working.

Lupron Question.
September 2023 Abiraterone and 5mg of
prednisone
was added. Psa was 19 in Sept and dropped to 1.26 as of Jan. 11 2024. Since going on Abi when I get a monthly Lupron shot I have trouble sleeping that first night and mild flu like symptoms the next day.

Levels moving in right direction with Imuran and
prednisone
titrating down 5mg weekly from 60mg. Frustrating though that I don’t know if my actions are directly positively or negatively affecting my symptoms or labs. Like with my daughter’s type 1 diabetes, we exhaustingly manage all day.

By how should I increase my prednisone?
Hi All,I have had PMR since 2011 when diagnosed. I had got down to 5mg of pred and was on this dosage for many years until I had a massive flare at the beginning of 2023 and I increased my dosage, then gradually came down to 8 and 3/4mg. I am a 72 year old fit male. I have been going to my physiotherapist

Prednisone to Hydrocortisone
Have had had a rollercoaster of
prednisone
amounts. Around 3mg I start to get stiffness and fatigue. So she put me on Hydrocortisone. 10mg in am and 10mg in afternoon for a month. Month two 10mg in am and 5mg in pm. Then a cortisol blood test. I’ll hear from her.

Methotrexate or Prednisone which is more damaging?(also update on eyes)
She mentioned that I may want to try Methotrexate to lower
prednisone
. I have to admit that I'm scared to try another drug. I feel like
prednisone
is the devil I know and Metho is the devil I don't know.
