My PMR has returned. To my hands and wrists. I was surprised to learn that PMR can attack the hands, wrists, and knees as well as, but not as often as, the hips and shoulders. When I tapered off of prednisone I used a super slow method which I don't remember. Can someone please tell me that method? Has anyone out there had it in their hands? Any different than the usual hips and shoulders? Thank you, Skip

Return of PMR
My PMR has always affected my hands after the first few months when it was shoulders and legs. If I have a flare it almost always starts in my wrists.
At the top of every thread there is a box with a link to the FAQs - did we have that when you were here before?

Sorry to hear your PMR has returned and yes there are many on here who have issues with hands -had you put that in the title it would have brought up related posts.

Here’s a post about hand pain -if you look at it you will see related posts -
Yes, I had pmr pain in my wrists/hands. It came on just over two years with pmr, and was eased with a couple of days by increasing my pred by 3mg.
Morning, as already suggested re PMR in hands etc, but just a thought could it also be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which can also be a side effect/part of/brought on by PMR? Link about CTS below.

No, I don't think so because I took 15 mg of prednisone and within 9 hours all pain was gone which pretty much confirms it is PMR. Thank you, Skip
Agree it probably is, but my CTS disappeared with 10mg of Pred until I got back to 3mg again.
No - response to pred doesn't confirm PMR - it merely adds to the wall of evidence. Some forms of arthritis and CTS also improve markedly with pred.
The most pain I get is in my hands, sometimes the pain is absolutely unbearable, I'm currently on 10mg press and tried getting down to 8 but it was a too bigger jump so had to go back up.
I have felt wrist pain for the last month. It almost feels like the shoulder pain is migrating.. Last week I hammered roof nails for an hour or two on a small project. That was an obvious trigger. But the PMR pain has touched down in the new wrist location prior to that, and is manageable so far.. Hope the prednisone re-use and taper works well, skip.
After four years with PMR, I thought I had finished with the disease four months ago, after tapering down to 1 mg of prednisone and then noticing one day that ALL stiffness and pain and left my body. Five weeks later I developed pain in both wrists and hands. A few days later, pain and stiffness returned to neck and shoulders, but at a fairly tolerable level. When pain increased, I resumed prednisone for 10 days, starting at 2.5 mg - in part to confirm that the pain was due to PMR. It took 15 mg to resolve the pain. I tapered off a few days after pain resolved and have not resumed prednisone since. Wrist and hand pain comes and goes now, every few days, along with shoulder stiffness, but is mild and seems to be in retreat. It was helpful to find out that over 60% of people with PMR have tenosynovitis in wrists/hands. I thought for a while that I had developed a new disease, but I hope and suspect this a last gasp of the disease for me.
