Stories from a hospital volunteer - "Thanks for the chat."
“Thanks for the chat” were the goodbye words from the first patient we saw yesterday morning. I was accompanied by a new volunteering recruit, a girl with a Japanese looking name, that I condensed to “Sushi”. I later learnt that the name was Russian and from the Tolstoy novel “War and Peace.” But “Thanks

Atorvastatin
I had been resisting my GPs' calls to take statins for some years having pointed out to them that although they were saying a total cholesterol level around 6 was too high the ratio of HDL to LDL was good. About eighteen months ago I acquiesceded and started taking Atorvastatin. However, l was hospitalised

HI I had the Whipple operation 4 years ago which was successful, however I still suffer from digestive issues such as loose motions which seem to lead to a rash . Also stomach cramps especially at night.Lots of Uti’s. Does anyone else suffer the same problems and how are they dealing with them.

Whipple operation
Is there anyone who has had a Whipple operation over 11 or more years ago? I would love to chat. As I say I had my operation over 11 ago - is there anyone else who had it long ago still having problems?

Whittle but too late for chemo
Hi, my partner had stage 3 pancreatic cancer in Feb 2017. He had a Whipple operation but recovery was very very slow, perhaps as he was 76 at the time. He was too frail and missed the window: opportunity for chemo. What is his likely prognosis now?

Post Whipple op pain
Hi, I had a Whipple procedure done just over two weeks ago, as I have MEN 1, which predisposes me to neuro endocrine tumours on certain organs, Andreas being one of them. Anyway, Op went smoothly and surgeon happy. Post op I hit a rough patch with sickness and nausea and balancing pain relief in hospital

Post Whipples
I have been diagnosed with B12 deficiency two and a half years after my Whipples procedure. Still to have my first injection. I have tingling up my face and lips and a sore tongue. My tummy feels so tight. Don’t know if that’s to do with all the internal work they did when they removed my duodenum and

ICU Acquired Weakness
My husband Paul was in ICU for around 9 days he had respiratory distress and was septic. Previously he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which was borderline resectable. The plan was to give him a aggressive dose of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor and then perform the Whipple operation. The chemotherapy

5 years past whipple-what to do about omeprazole
I had a whipple procedure done after the discovery of a non-malignant tumor on my pancreas. After the procedure, I was told that I would need to take omeprazole morning and night, for the rest of my life. I have had gastroenterological issues and want to eliminate omeprazole from my routine, if possible

pancreatic cysts
I've had 3 cysts on my pancreas for 7 years, 1 has double in size I had eus and the fluid they tested had double the amount of something which me a 60 to 70% chance it's cancer, I've to have another eau to check one of the other cysts and depending on the results of that they will decide whether to do

Whipple 6/23/17
I had a Whipple procedure on June 23, 2017 because of a tumor at the head of my pancreas and I'm wondering how long it takes to when you feel your energy coming back. It's really only been three weeks but I feel tired all the time.
