Movicol

This has resulted in constipation and many rounds of Movicol. Unfortunately none of my previous Dr explained I had to keep giving him Movicol after the 'large poo' had been passed which meant after a while we were back in the same position.

He's now on 10 movicol a day and has been for the best part of a week (usually 6 per day) and he's still mega bloated and doesnt seem to be shifting the main constipation. He's also having up to 15 accidents per day! Not sure if overflow or just leakage due to movicol.

We used Movicol, increased doses to unblock him. It worked quite well. He had a very watery poo last week and I decided to stop taking movicol. Everything worked quite well. He was happy for 3 days. And then suddenly everything came back!!!

I seriously can't drink this awful stuff. I have tried mixing it with all sorts. Can anyone recommend a tablet form stool softener please?

She was on movicol when she was 7 but she chose not to use it because of several accidents that were very messy and tbh I agreed with her on that.

I was told by my GP that I was constipated because I had taken Imodium for too long.Apologies for being so graphic but I don't know how else to tell you my symptoms.My symptom was not having a normal bowel movement,just passing wind with a small amount of faeces.She gave me Movicol-half and I took it

I contacted the consultant who said start movicol again for 1-2 weeks and then stop again.

and I am lost what to do.I made the mistake with Imodium and I don't want to make the mistake with Movicol.

My son is 5 and had trouble with stool withholding since march, we have disimpacted with movicol twice only needing to go up to 4-6 sachets for it to work.

I should also say we have tried movicol in the past and have concerns over how soft/sticky it made her BM even on a very low dose so worry about her ability to do these on a toilet.

I have a 6 year old who has been on Movicol, and then Senokot for around two years. The movicol is making her windy, and on occasion her tummy makes loud rumbling noises. I was thinking about giving her only the Senokot every night, except when I looked it says it's for short term use.

I don't know if: -I'm not giving enough movicol and thay is causing accidents. -I am giving too much movicol and they are a little to soft and urgent (have seen some older threads recommending lower Movicol and more fluids) -it's some kind of long term internal damage no one has picked up on.

My daughter has suffered from constipation for 4 years (she is now 6 1/2)and has been on movicol for the past 4 years. We only ever get an odd week with no accidents apart from that she can have a numbers of accidents in a day.

Without the movicol the gaps are getting bigger between bowel motions. He does have smelly wind and poos and I can normally tell when he needs to poo as he has a decrease in appetite. I am confused as to whether the movicol is helping and wondering if I need to go back to the doctor with him.

Hi folks, We recently had to put our nearly 7 year old back onto a low dose of Movicol. In the 3 days he's been back on it it he has had 1 wee accident each day, the first being of epic proportions. It could be complete coincidence but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

So my daughter41/2 has been doing really well since disimpaction in April on 1 movicol a day. She's done loads of days with no accidents, then recently a bit of a regression, had 3 accidents this week, quite loose.

Was going really well; symptoms had gone & bowels moving everyday (I have IBS C & biopsies showed chrones) Symptoms returned on Tuesday & hadn't moved my bowels for 3 day; went today after taking 3 movicol sachets.

The doctors just keep prescribing movicol but I think we're beyond this now. I need to go back to them, but any help would be appreciated as I feel as though we're being fobbed off!

Any advise would be greatly welcomed if you have experience of this - it is so frustrating getting hold of the continence nurse for one but then she just tells us he sounds like he is backlogged but to play about with the dose of 1 or 2 movicol until we get a sausage like poo x

Last weekend we did a movicol clear out which appears to have been successful. The paediatrician we saw suggested that we encourage sitting on the loo after each meal but especially after teh evening meal as we can be more relaxed then.
