I seriously can't drink this awful stuff. I have tried mixing it with all sorts. Can anyone recommend a tablet form stool softener please?

Ducolax tablets or it's generic works for me. You need to test which dosage works for you; the recommended is 1-3. I have settled on 2 and 5 to 6 hours later, one good squeeze and it all comes out. No more bleeding, tearing, exhaustion. If I have not been for a few days due to traveling, meetings, time critical deadlines, etc., and I feel compacted, I use 3 tablets and a Ducolax suppository. The suppository takes care of the lower portion, which will usually come out in 30-40 mins, but the longer you can hold it, the easier it becomes, and what's left, up to 24hrs.

I think it's Dulcoease I use, I can't tolerate any of the senna or physilium type meds as they give me pain! I remember I used to have Lactulose on prescription a liquid but only a teaspoon or so at a time.

I agree with both Bennix and Maggiella.... Those are both good products (including the generic!) I would also add that if you eat a lot of meat...this can have a tendency to form hard stools (maybe not in everyone) ... and make sure you drink plenty of water. Good luck!

I agree - stop eating meat. I use a tablespoon of ground flax/linseed with every meal, start every day with lots of fresh fruit(2 or 3 apples, grapes anything I can, lots of water, herb and fruit teas. NO sugar, no salt, no animal flesh or animal products, no grains and no legumes, and no alcohol. If I get anywhere close to feeling a bit blocked (probs because I weakened and had a bit of bread) I have psyllium husk in water - never drugs - much of this we can take control of if we have the info to do it

I prefer to try more natural options. Psyllium is highly recommended for those with IBS. Also flax seed. Taking magnesium seems to help not only with regularity, but sleep.

Hi Rockyroo,

You could try the generic over the counter medicine Bisocodyl tablets from the pharmacy counter.
