Movicol

Paediatric Reg we saw in A&E yesterday said 2 doses Movicol today and tomorrow, then 4 the next 2 days, then 6 etc etc. However, just been reading the parent guide to disimpaction on ERIC and it says day 1 should be 4 sachets?? So confused..

We have a maintenance dose of movicol and she goes for a poo on the toilet most days, sometimes if we have a change in routine or if she's not drank enough water she will regress a bit but we can usually get her back in a routine.

(Currently on daily poo - BSC 4 - on 2 sachets Movicol, soiling decreased significantly but increase in day time wetting when my son laughs)

So, to update.. we have spent of today (Easter Sunday) at A&E after severe pains over the last couple of days. Turns out she is still impacted. The consultant that told us 1 sachet a day for 4 days would be sufficient was talking complete nonsense and has caused us to effectively waste nearly 3 weeks

They say she doesn't need Movicol but then they can't say what is causing the pain. Is it possible to pay for a private scan or xray just to see what's actually going on in there?? And if so, which is the better option? Thanks again.

My son poos continue to be a type 6 since we finished our movicol. I have tired to wean the pico but as soon as I do he stops going for about 3/4 days. I just need to know how to get his poo to a type 4/5 without stopping the pico. Many thanks

Currently re introduced Movicol, to get things moving a regular - with limited success, in that it has got things moving at least. Pharmacist has suggested Lactulose. My son says he now experiences a pushing sensation. I don't know whether to just switch to lactulose to see what happens.

My 9 year old daughter had an x Ray just over a week ago that showed severe constipation and she has been on four senna a night plus we are now on day 5 of 12 sachets of movicol. Her tummy still hurts and she hasn’t reached the “rusty water” stage yet. Do we persevere on these high doses?

She’s gone through 2 Movicol des-impactations and one 1 clean prep at hospital. She used to have full on accidents (full wee and full poo load) when she was 5 and 6 but it’s been slowly improving.

I feel like it's not only about his diet or movicol. It feels like something else. He's starting to feel embarrassed because of leaks pf poo on his underwear, wetting the bed almost every night. .. How do we build their self esteem ? What else can be done medically? Any other experiences?

My 5 year old hasn’t been the toilet for about 2 weeks but wasn’t experiencing any discomfort, called the doctor who advised he sounded impacted (this was done over the phone not a physical examination) upped the dosage of movicol and got to type 7 on the Bristol stool chart when up to 8 sachets of movicol

We were prescribed movicol to use as and when required and things got better and we managed to get him potty trained. All of a sudden the last two weeks his gone to have regular toilet accidents both pee and poo.

Despite a very healthy diet and lots of water my son is still having to take 4 sachets of Movicol daily. I was researching natural laxatives and chicory inulin came up - can anyone recommend and advise on a good brand to try please? Or any type of natural alternative please? Many thanks 🦋

My 4 year old daughter finished her disimpaction regime at the start of this week and I’m struggling to find a maintenence dose of Movicol. The continence nurse said to keep trying different dosages to find the right one but she’s only had one sachet this morning and she’s still really loose.

Hi My 3 year old daughter has been on Senna and Movicol every day now for a month and she has done very well so far going to the toilet for a poo every morning.

He’s been on Movicol/Laxido since Feb and now on Senna since April. What I’m struggling with is the constant battle with my son to get him to drink/sit on toilet/drink sachet/poo.

He is on 1/2 sachet of Movicol a day as per our HV advice, if we kept him in nappies he would easily poo every day but we don't want to keep relying on nappies as it makes him lazy with weeing.

Mixed opinions re impaction, but agreement at least around some level of constipation so on low ish level of Movicol/Laxido. Numerous tests, still in pain but now also with an absolute fear of eating.

Having to take Movicol twice a day for the past year, but finding now I have bad stomach pains most days with wind, I was ok at first but really don’t want to take Movicol for ever, has anybody else had this problem

I have a 14 month old girl she has been constipated for over 2 months now i thought it could have been with food change and teething i brought her to my gp and he gave her movicol but she will only poo if she has the movicol in her system if not she would struggle alot to go this has been the first time
