Hello! I'm new here. Just got off the phone with my GP and feel so unmotivated...my son has suffered from constipation since his first week as a newborn. I feel like it's not only about his diet or movicol.
It feels like something else. He's starting to feel embarrassed because of leaks pf poo on his underwear, wetting the bed almost every night. ..
How do we build their self esteem ?
What else can be done medically?
Any other experiences?
Thank you

He sounds backed up, the wetting is caused by a full bowel pushing on the bladder and the leaking is new poo sneaking around old. you need to disimpact him with high doses of movicol and then find a suitable dose to remain on for as long as the issue persisted in the first place. Encourage toilet sits after every meal too.
It sounds as if he is not being cleared out. Go on YouTube and search poo nurses. It’s a brilliant video by the darent valley hospital constipation team.
Their are lots of motovational ideas online, its just seeing what works for you. Regular routine for the loo and watch him to see signs. I noticed all the signs with my step daughter, its been really hard, with having her only half the time a month. Its wasn't being carried on at her mum's. So its getting worse not better. Going slowly keep going. Last week i told her you can do it. Your a big girl. When she was leaving to go her mum's she had a big smile telling her mother she pooed on the toilet. Also given her an incentive she can have her new watch when she keeps useing the toilet. Last week her mum didn't tell us so another week at ours and hopefully its worked. She'll want her watch.
