Sudden panic.. Paediatric Reg we saw in A&E yesterday said 2 doses Movicol today and tomorrow, then 4 the next 2 days, then 6 etc etc. However, just been reading the parent guide to disimpaction on ERIC and it says day 1 should be 4 sachets?? So confused..

And the original discharge from hospital last month, before we told "just 1 a day" was something crazy like 2 sachets 4 times a day, then 2 sachets 5 times a day and then 3 sachets 4 times a day! We never got past 2 sachets a day as she was readmitted the next day. I am so confused! Today she has had 2 sachets, which is what we were told last night so I was feeling like we had done well. Now I don't know if I need to get more in before bed..

You can work up the way you are but it will take longer to disimpact.

And presumably the pain will continue for longer? She's struggling to take the Movicol this morning

She is creating a vicious circle essentially, she needs to drink the movicol to get things moving.

So she is old enough for you to explain how taking the movicol will help. Take her out for a walk, exercise will help. Remember you are the parent so don't let her manipulate you into submission.

Would you expect pain to be this severe though?

Yes if she is backed up.

OK.. I guess at some level I have been worrying it is something else as the pain is so bad. Every mouthful of food or drink is a battle at the moment.

Anyway..sorry to go on.. thank you for you wisdom.

No worries, if you are in doubt about the pain then seek medical attention.
