Update..what a day

So, after seeing our GP this morning due to ongoing severe pain we were sent to the children's assessment unit at the local hospital- where we spent the rest of the day and evening. The surgical consultant and registrars - as that's who you default see with abdominal pain- said she isn't impacted, even though on Sunday at A&E at a different hospital they said she was.. she is still in loads of pain but they have sent us home. I am at my wits end. They say she doesn't need Movicol but then they can't say what is causing the pain. Is it possible to pay for a private scan or xray just to see what's actually going on in there?? And if so, which is the better option? Thanks again.

When did she last open her bowels?what do they look like on the Bristol stool chart?

Yesterday, twice. First time I would say 4. Second time more like 6. I am assuming the Movicol affected the second..

I would continue with it, disimpacting won't hurt and if there is no impaction then it won't take long.

How much Movicol and how long for would you think? I am going to be back in touch with our GP today as still in the same pain and want to enquire about privatescan or xray. Plus need to collect a load of stool samples.. All this conflicting information from the medics is really not helpful..

The links I posted are very helpful. as for an x-ray or scan you will be hard pushed to get one agreed via the NHS. You may find privately you get one, but you need a good paediatric gastroenterologist to support the findings and the next course of treatment should it be required.

This sounds horrendous. Have you tried a suppository. you can buy children"s ones in the chemist. Keep up with the disimpaction too. Good luck

It sounds like early irritable bowel syndrome it's very real and very painful but she will be better off all medication with some pro biotic

That's really interesting, no one has mentioned that. They are testing for IBD amongst other things but no mention of IBS - she's really struggling with eating now as well (as in it's causing pain -which then makes her scared to eat). She has been in so much pain today but I basically got a lecture off our GP for not just accepting what the hospital have said (even though it conflicts with what we were told a couple of days ago) and none of them seem bothered by the pain and think it is acceptable for an 8 year old to be screaming in pain multiple times a day.. Sorry for ranting I just don't know where to turn..
