I'm new to Essential Thrombocythemia
I'm a CALR mutation and taking

So much for BUPA medical
Sept I was put on
hydroxycarbamide
. I had no symptoms, I am fit and well, exercise regularly, eat well, ski, play tennis, gym etc etc. I had a BUPA privatemedical 14 years ago when I was 50, and the other day I looked at the paperwork.

Re side effects of hydroxycarbamide
Hi Maz, Some 6 years ago you asked for feedback on the side effects of
hydroxycarbamide
and got a huge number of responses, and I notice that several other people have asked the same question over the intervening years.

Allow myself to introduce myself...
I had issues with fatigue, brain fog, anger management, altered bowel habit, etc on the
hydroxycarbamide
and have recently changed (Sept) to the Pegasys Interferon.

Checking in
Had my 3 monthly check up and my platelets have gone up slightly to 380, but told to carry on with
Hydroxycarbamide
1 a day and 2 on a Saturday and Sunday, which I’m disappointed about, as I asked about dropping the dose, as I read on here a lot of people of similar age (I’m 53) with higher platelets

Cold without fever.
Hi I am on Hydroxyurea 500mg a day and have a cold for some days runny nose and eyes and some chest pain when coughing (not often). What antibiotics are we allowed if needed? I found that DEPON was very good for me whilst soluble aspirin not at all. Any advice?

Is hair loss a given?
Hi all - I know that hair loss/thinning is listed as a possible side effect of taking hydroxyurea. I immediately latched on to the word “possible”, in the hope that it also means loads of us on the drug will not lose hair. My haemo has many young patients who have to take hydroxy forever for sickle cell

Low BUN/creatinine ratio
My BUN/creatinine ratio was below normal on my last blood test. It has never been abnormal before. I started hydroxyurea about a month ago. Anyone experience this before?
