southampton heartbeat house
Has anyone stayed at Heartbeat House in Southampton while a relative is having heart surgery? I sounds an amazing facility, but I did wonder what it was like to stay there.

Can azathioprine cause chest pains?
Hi, I have been on azathioprine tablets mostly 75mg to 100mg for my Lupus for approximately 20 years. Have been experiencing chest pains on my left side especially after excretion. I had various tests and scans but they are all negative. I had Covid last September and had to stop taking the azathioprine

Some bad news…
I had a bypass a year ago and everything seemed to be going fairly well. I noticed a bit of chest pain in May but this seemed to pass over and the consultant wasn’t too concerned. However, two or three weeks ago I noticed some left-sided chest/arm/shoulder pain when cycling and this has got progressively

hi ,I had a mechanical aortic valve replacement and a anrysyum repair a few years ago . I've been on 5 mg bisoprolol since surgery. I seemed to have asthma after surgery certainly didn't have it before. There were doctors arguing as to whether I had it or not at hospital after my op anyway several

Cold weather
Maybe a bit of a strange question - does anyone feel the cold a lot more since their heart operation? I certainly seem to, two extra layers of T shirts/jumpers, a second pair of socks and I've still had to turn up the heating ... It's mainly my feet, got some lovely slipper socks that make all the

Double dose of Apixaban this morning
Good morning My husband who has AF took 2 x 5mg Apixaban this morning instead of one! The leaflet with the tablets says if you take too many, you should contact your doctor immediately. I've phoned over to our surgery and told them and am awaiting a reply. I am a born worrier but he is so precious

Hello
Hi. So glad for this site. Newly diagnosed with a-fib, along with heart failure (diastolic). Walked into the emergency room here at local hospital Nov. 5th., thinking that I had a possible DVT because of on-going left leg swelling, after blood test and x-rays told I had a-fib which was the reason for

Groin pain from catheter ablation
Harefield hospital carried out an ablation for AF and flutter Jan 2023. There was a black area of my groin/thigh that was black. Since the operation I get a dull inner pain in my thigh going down my leg a few inches. This problem / annoyance does not effect my activities and I am only aware of it when

pulse
please could you settle a dispute. Two years ago my husband had a total heart block and was hastily fitted with a pacemaker. Since then we have discovered he has Atrial Fibrillation 1.9%of the time and so takes Edoxaban. Nurse at surgery yesterday sat for ages clutching his pulse before finally telling

Ross vs Mechincal valve
My son is going to be 21 in January and is on the list for his 4th open heart surgery. His last one was in 2013 where they performed the BROM. He has to decide between Ross or Mechincal. Both have pros and cons but and are higher risk as this will be his 4th but does he want to go Ross(15 to 20% risk

travel insurance
my son had mitral valve replacement in March but has been given the go ahead to go on holiday. can I use the normal compare sites to get a quote if I add the existing condition? mor do we need specialist insurance companies to quote for insurance?

recovery expectations
Hi all I’m coming up to 5 weeks after valve replacement, removal of web and thinning of thickened muscle. Had x ray and ecg, 60% healed and function looking good apparently. Which is great news. I’ve been walking each day, I’m up to a couple of miles and on short hills BPM up to 130. May have overdid

Flecainide, not curing PAF
I had PAF for five years flick and I stopped it every time. No it doesn’t after being in AF for three weeks they changed the dosage. I’m taking a low dose of flecainide every day and Apixaban. I’m hoping it will bring the sinus rhythm back but what happens if it doesn’t is an ablation something to think
