Has anyone stayed at Heartbeat House in Southampton while a relative is having heart surgery? I sounds an amazing facility, but I did wonder what it was like to stay there.

I haven't stayed at Heartbeat House, but I was on a ward in Southampton waiting for bypass surgery with someone who had relatives there, they spoke really highly of it, super clean and comfortable.

It's often used by people from the Channel Islands who come to Southampton for heart surgery.

Good luck!

Although I have never used it personally it is built on the site of two houses that back onto my parents old house and I have heard that the facilities are excellent. I had my Angioplasty at Southampton General Hospital following my HA over 13 years ago and as they have a 24 hour catheter theatre, I was saved from major damage with 2 stents,. I have nothing but praise for SGH in all areas as we still use various departments.

Apart from my damaged lung caused by inhaling flour during a lifetime as a baker and my father and Grandfather were also bakers so I have had contact with flour as a toddler also!

hi Kristin

I had open heart surgery in June, and my husband stayed in Heart Beat House. He said it was very comfortable and he was very well provided for. He had his own very comfortable room, with a nearby bathroom/ toilet. There was a lovely lounge that looked out onto a pretty garden. Each guest has cupboard and fridge space in the large kitchen. All the other people there had family members having heart surgery, so they all supported one another which meant a lot . It’s very close to the hospital, about a 5 min walk

I stayed there for 7 nights in Jan 2020 whilst my partner had heart surgery.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the house, it meant a safe friendly place to stay and one less thing to worry about at a horrible time.
