Harefield hospital carried out an ablation for AF and flutter Jan 2023. There was a black area of my groin/thigh that was black. Since the operation I get a dull inner pain in my thigh going down my leg a few inches. This problem / annoyance does not effect my activities and I am only aware of it when inactive in bed morning/night or sometimes watching TV .
Finally today I have requested a chat with my GP. If necessary I will seek an MRI , Xray , or whatever privately as my concern is that it could get worse. That said it maybe just nerve pain that I will have to live with. A small price to pay for a really excellent heart operation which has reduced my AF to zero in normal day to day activity.
The nearest answer I have to this is . . .
"The femoral neuralgia syndrome after arterial catheter trauma".
Anyone else with this issue ? I am actually in the dark as to what happened during my 3 hour operation , had the op on the Friday and was back on stage on the Monday

Hi I had one procedure done through my groin which did turn black after, I assumed it was bruising and it took a while to go away. About a year ago I kept getting pain in the same site it would come on when walking or sitting and it aches a lot. I went to my GP who arranged X rays and it was diagnosed as a femoral hernia. I have no idea if the procedure had anything to do with it or if it is just a coincidence. Char
Hello , thanks for your reply , Wow a femoral hernia - this is worth knowing. I hope they fix it for you. Today I am not aware of my constant early or late discomfort. To point out how difficult this is to pin down I will say that I had to put an instrument and equipment away in a very tight area last night after playing in a pub. After being up 4 hours today I have realised that the dull nerve pain is not present but I have a slight muscle or ligament/tendon pull at the back of my leg in the same sort of region when lifting up or down. Just as I thought this was going to become a bigger and bigger problem it goes away even with a summer of golf and heavy work in the garden - putting items away in a case has temporarily fixed it !
Maybe sitting behind my desktop PC will set it off again.
I also had an angioplasty back in September, through both groins. I was very bruised for quite a few weeks and still suffer from a type of bruise pain in my left groin area which bothers me. I went to the Gp who reassured me that it was still healing. If it persists, I will have to go back and insist on another scan. Is this normal I wonder?
After my TAVI I had a massive blue-black mark on my upper left thigh where the marker dye had been injected. On the other side, in contrast, there was just a tiny incision where the new valve had been inserted. I was a bit puzzled when the nurse told me not to use Dettol on the mark, which at first I assumed was spilt stain. It took a couple of weeks to disappear - at least I noticed the daily receding.
Hello , yes it doesn't sound too normal. I am not afraid to se people on an operating table on the TV but I am glad that I still don't know too much about what happened.
